From the Rector
Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Today I went to the post office, and looking inside our box I found, among the usual bills, a card. It was from my mother, and inside was a handwritten letter, the kind that she and I used to exchange during my college years in a time before instant communication. How tender it was to take in my hands the sheets of paper that she took the time to write on in her own hand. They provided a physical and emotional connection that a text or email never could.

The letter contained the kind of sound motherly advice that a woman who has been at this for 45 years is only too qualified to give. It also contained assurances of her love, which of course I knew, yet was still as happy to hear as when I was little. Our lives and careers have taken us to different parts of the country, and the pace of life often obscures from our minds and hearts the importance of a call or letter. But even when you’re old and grown, and in the prime of your career (especially then), you still need your mom, and she you.

With Mother’s Day coming, some of these thoughts were already in my head, but in receiving the letter today, I was moved to write about it to you. You see, the mother/child bond is just one of the beautiful gifts of human love that God bestows upon us, for he is love. Parents, siblings, family, and friends, at our best model for one another the all-encompassing love of God. And it is in modeling this love that we get, however imperfectly, a glimpse of that heavenly city and know that the sum and source of all that is and ever shall be is there, and that he is love.

Call your mother!
Blessings, Father Rick
The "Mary" Month of May
The month of May is traditionally devoted to St. Mary, our patron. Throughout the month, we will be singing special hymns to the blessed mother. On Mother's Day, May 12, all moms will receive a specially blessed rose for the occasion -- bring you mom to church! On Rogation Sunday, May 26, immediately following the 10am service, we will process into the churchyard to bless the grounds and plant a dogwood tree. Pious legend has it that the dogwood was used for the cross of Jesus, and upon his death, it changed into a small gnarled tree so that no cross could ever be made from it limbs again.
Become an Episcopalian!
On the feast of Pentecost, Sunday, June 9, we will be joined by the Right Rev. Andrew St. John at the 10:00 service. Bishop St. John will preach and offer the rites of confirmation and reception into the Episcopal Church.

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. Those who have already been confirmed in another tradition (such as the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, or the Lutheran Church), may be officially received into the Episcopal Church. Please contact Fr Rick for more information.
Join us on the experience of a lifetime as we seek to grow in discipleship while walking in the footsteps of Christ. A detailed itinerary and booking form can be found here or you may sign up below to stay in the loop.
