From the Rector
Dear Parishioners and Friends,

I have a love/hate relationship with the "Memories" feature on Facebook. On the one hand, it is fun to look back at what we were doing several years ago and to think about what has changed in our lives since then. On the other hand, and especially this year, it is a constant reminder that most travel is off the table for the foreseeable future.

Yesterday, though, was a happy memory. I was reminded that exactly three years ago I had my first Sunday at St. Mary's as your 12th rector. It was bittersweet to look at the photos of not-long-ago and think of the excitement of the new, but also to remember some friends who are no longer with us.

We have packed a lot into three years, and I am blessed to have the support of my husband, as well as strong and devoted lay leadership. Together we are working hard to serve God and our community, and to preserve and improve St. Mary's for future generations.

Like everyone else, our plans have taken a turn in response to the worldwide pandemic we now face. We have had to be decisive and adaptable in the extreme, but what I see coming out of this is a fresh perspective and a willingness not to be bound by the old ways of doing things. There is an exciting creative energy here, and I believe that St. Mary's is poised for renewal.

Let us celebrate our milestones, and set our sights on the next three years and beyond of being Christ's disciples in our community and around the world.

In Memoriam
Wayne Don Lyski, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020 in Rye, NY, and was buried at St. Mary's on August 5th. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara and a large extended family. The burial service was private, but a broader celebration of Wayne's life will be held at a date to be determined in the future.

May Wayne's soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen.
Baptism Announcement
On Saturday, August 1st, we welcomed Adam Smith into the body of Christ through the waters of baptism. Adam and his wife Melissa recently moved to Tuxedo and have become actively involved with St. Mary's and the broader community. Recently, Adam spearheaded a "Fun Run" which raised significant funds to support the vital ministries of St. Mary's. Due to the pandemic, a private baptism was held at their home.

Grant, Lord God, to all who have been baptized into the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, that, as we have put away the old life of sin, so we may be renewed in the spirit of our minds, and live in righteousness and holiness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Successful Recital Held
Congratulations to our own organ scholar Bruce Xu and flutist David Rothenberg for the fantastic recital they offered last Sunday. The full performance may be viewed on Facebook (you do not need a Facebook account to view it; fast forward the video to 12m15s for the starting point of the concert).
New Outdoor Wednesday Service
Now that I am back from a short vacation, we will resume a regular schedule of online and in-person services (see below). I am pleased to announce that the Wednesday 10am service will now be open to in-person worshippers. This service of Holy Eucharist will be held outside (bring your own lawn chair); in case of bad weather, we will use the St. Mark's altar in the main church. Please remember that masks and social distance rules apply to all in-person activities at St. Mary's. All services are also online at Facebook (you do not need a Facebook account to participate).

Father Rick
The Light of Christ
A sanctuary lamp has been hung in the church directly above the tabernacle, where the Blessed Sacrament is kept in reserve. The perpetual light of the lamp reminds us that Jesus is sacramentally present, and calls us to greater reverence for his Body as well as to prayer in his presence.

The glass vigil candles that fit inside the lamp can be given in memory of a loved one, as a petition for some need, or in thanksgiving for answered prayer. Each light burns for an entire week, and the cost is $20. With your donation, please leave a note describing your prayer's intention as well as the week you would like the light to burn. You may donate online or mail a check to St. Mary's-in-Tuxedo, P.O. Box 637, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987.

This week, the sanctuary lamp was given by Harrison Bush in memory of Florence Bull.
