Dear Parishioners and Friends,
There are quite a few offerings for Christian formation at our church aside from the Sunday and weekday services. You probably could name a few, but there is one in particular that you may not be aware of.
On some Thursdays throughout the year, a small group of ladies as well as gentlemen gather in Bentley Hall. They bring along a hand craft such as needlework (though that isn't strictly required), a dish to pass, and a desire to discuss and learn a bit about scripture, theology, and history. The group is coordinated by Wendy Favia, who is always kind enough to come down to my office to tear me away from my work and invite me to join the group.
The dishes on hand are always delicious, and vary with the seasons. Topics of conversation also vary widely. Today we discussed everything from the life of Christ, to gardening, and even the proper names for oversized bottles of champagne (which are all named after ancient kings of Israel). Did you know that a "Nebuchadnezzar" holds the equivalent of 20 regular bottles of champagne? I guess he enjoyed a good party. If you are free, please join us for the next luncheon on August 30th at 11:30am.
