From the Rector
Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Things have changed a lot over the last year and a half, and while our commitment to serving God and our neighbor has never waned, we must adapt to the realities of the world around us.

During this time of changes, disappointments, and sacrifices, I have tried my best to maintain an “attitude of gratitude.” I try to be grateful for the blessings in spite of the hardships, and to look for the new opportunities that change will reveal. It would be easier to bemoan the things that aren’t and to look backwards to the things that were. However, as Christians, we must always be mindful that we are people of the Resurrection, and that with God’s help, all things are possible. In the words of St. Paul, “Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine…”

We have a long history of spiritual, educational, and social programming here at St. Mary’s. This moment presents us with a great opportunity to reboot and reimagine those ministries, particularly those for children and youth. But we need your input and involvement. To that end, we’ve created a survey -- it’s short and just takes a few minutes to complete. You can take the survey online or get a paper copy at church. We will compile and share the results, and I look forward to working with everyone to develop what comes next.

Episcobuild Raises $1500+ for Habitat for Humanity
Many thanks to the walkers and their supporters who helped raise more than $1,500 for EpiscoBuild last Sunday, especially the St. Mary's parishioners who gave directly to Habitat and via our Outreach ministry!
Food Pantry Open Wednesday
Many thanks to all the volunteers and supporters of the Sloatsburg Food Pantry, especially those from St. Mary's and the Tuxedo community. Please visit our Facebook page for photos from the most recent outdoor food distribution as well as the build-out of the new indoor client-choice pantry (more than $60,000 of the $200,000 has already been raised). If you'd like to help increase our impact, please make your donation online now, indicating Food Pantry in the memo line. 100% of your donation (after the credit card fee) will go directly to the pantry.
New Logo for St. Mary's
A recent project, that has long been discussed, is a new and more updated logo for Saint Mary’s. This iconic structure has so many aspects worthy of the distinction of our new logo, but one jumped out rather quickly and that was the bell tower, or belfry.

During Covid I have been ushering most Sundays for many, many months. One aspect of this ministry that I love is ringing the bell. Well, in truth, it was not always the case. To stand under the rafters, grab a thick, heavy rope and pull hard, while the 133 year old wood above you creaks, is a bit nerve-racking; when you finally figure out how hard to pull and get exactly 10 good strong rings and stop the clapper quickly at the end, it is great fun.

So, it was decided the belfry would become the object of this venture. I made crude drawings and then they were sent along to our own Kimberly Breiland, who is the talent behind 22 Graphics, came up with our fabulous new logo! The belfry is strong and proud as it towers over Tuxedo, a reminder of our past and helping to bring us, joyfully, into the future. Thank you Kimberly, well done!
