From the Rector
Dear Parishioners and Friends,

On Saturday, August 6, the Church celebrates the feast of the Transfiguration. This is the moment in Jesus' life in which he takes Peter, James, and John up the mountain to pray. It was not unusual for Jesus to take time away from his ministry among the people to seek solitude and renewal, whether it be in the wilderness, on the water, or high atop a mountain. By his example, Jesus models for us the holy practice of renewal for ministry.

In this particular instance, though, something truly miraculous happened. Jesus was fully revealed to his disciples in all his shining glory. This of course Mirrors the time when Moses came down from the mountain after conversing with God, his face shining. The difference is that while Moses reflected God's glory, Jesus was God's glory. After this, he sternly admonished his disciples to tell no one what they had seen, and he turned resolutely toward Jerusalem and the cross.

While we won't see Jesus' glory face to face on this side of the veil, we can nevertheless look for glimpses of God's glory in the world and people around us. On Sunday, we will also celebrate a baptism at the 10:00 service. In it, a tender young soul will die to sin and be raised with Christ to new life. She will be marked as Christ's own forever. As she grows in years and in faith, how will God's glory be revealed through her? Perhaps it will happen in a grand way, or perhaps in small gestures, or maybe both. As we prepare to make a new Christian on Sunday, reflect on your own baptismal ministry. Where have you seen God's glory, and how have you helped to reveal it to others?

Blessings,
Father Rick
