From The Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

This coming Sunday will be a special one at St. Mary's. Along with the rest of the Episcopal Church, we will be marking the feast of Christ the King, which is the final Sunday in the Church year before Advent begins. We celebrate Christ's final triumph over sin and death and his glorious reign as King of Heaven.

We will also be celebrating our Harvest Thanksgiving by ingathering and blessing your pledges of financial support for the coming year. Stewardship is a spiritual practice, as has been said before. Therefore it is only fitting that we say thank you to you for your faithfulness and generosity as we consecrate your gifts to God's work at St. Mary's. Please bring your pledge card to church this Sunday; if you can't make it, please pledge online.

And last but certainly not least, we will be celebrating the baptism of baby Charles, welcoming him into Christ's body, the Church.

*New Hymn Alert* At my request, we will be singing a new baptismal hymn (new to us, anyway). It was written in in 1718 by Erdmann Neumeister (1671–1756), and is entitled, "God's Own Child, I Gladly Say It." The tune, Bachofen, was written in 1727 by Caspar Bachoven (1692-1755). I chose this hymn because of its robust baptismal theology, coupled with its delightful tune. If you want to familiarize yourself with it, you can click here to hear it on YouTube. I hope it will become part of our baptismal tradition for years to come. See you in church!

Blessings,

Fr Rick

Annual Outreach Thanksgiving Appeal

Traditionally St Mary’s puts together Thanksgiving Baskets to give to low income families in our community and families who, because of sickness or any other adversity, would benefit and enjoy some extra help in creating their Thanksgiving meal.

In Tuxedo we have been asked to provide for 37 families which includes 60 children. We need 24 for Hispanic baskets and 13 Traditional American baskets which will be distributed on the morning of Tuesday 22nd.

We will be accepting donations of non-perishables at any time and fresh vegetables and fruit the weekend of 19th and 20th November. These should be dropped off in the Chapel (up the steps to the right of the church building). We will pack the baskets on Monday, November 21st.

Cash donations by check [made out to St Mary’s, with memo Thanksgiving Baskets] or online here will also be very gratefully accepted.

Tuxedo Park Jeep Available

The 1967 Tuxedo Park Edition Jeep that was auctioned off at our benefit dinner in October of 2021 is once again available and in need of a good home. It was recently serviced by NJV Auto in Sloatsburg and is in running condition. It will need new tires and replacement of some of the wiring. In overall very good condition with low original miles, it is a real stunner! Contact Fr. Rick for more information.

St. Mary's is now on Instagram! Search for stmtux and click "follow" for lots of great photos from our worship and special events.
