Blessing of the Backpacks

On Sunday, August 23 we will have our traditional blessing of the backpacks. All students (and even teachers) are welcome to bring their backpacks for a blessing and a special gift as the school year starts!

Special Music on Sunday, August 30

We have a very special treat as Jeff Krick Jr. will share a few songs at the beginning of worship on Sunday, August 30. Jeff sings Elvis's music professionally and is also a person of faith who shares his songs from that perspective. Pastor Stuart saw him perform and was touched by his presentations of some great hymns of faith. Don’t worry, Jeff won’t be wearing a white jumpsuit and we think you’ll enjoy his great voice and the spirituals that Elvis was famous for singing.

Choose Kindness Worship Series Coming Soon

Kindness creates ripples. A compassionate word, a patient response, an unexpected act of generosity, or choosing to love someone who is difficult to love can reach farther than we imagine.

Beginning Sunday, September 20, we invite you to Choose Kindness, a worship series exploring Jesus’ call to love our neighbors - and what that love looks like in our words, relationships, homes, workplaces, schools, and community.

Join us as we discover how one choice, one act, and one ripple at a time can help bring more grace, compassion, and love into the world.

Choose Kindness. One choice. One act. One ripple at a time.

Free Freezer Available

Social Ministry no longer needs the large freezer in the parsonage, and it is available for free to anyone who wants it. It is in working condition, and they would like to have it moved out by early August if possible. If interested, please contact Jenn Pindle-Lloyd.

Youth Ministry News

THE FALL 2026 YOUTH EVENTS SCHEDULE IS UP and available for viewing on the church website, or by scanning the QR code to the right. All events are updated in real time, so this is where to find the most current information and links to event signups!

OUR OFFICIAL FALL KICKOFF LOCK-IN will be held Saturday evening, September 19 through Sunday morning, September 20 at St. Matthew's. We will spend the overnight "locked in" at the church, and lead the 9:30 am worship for St. Matthew's on Sunday. More details and signup info here: Sept. 19-20 Youth Kickoff Lock-In.

GOOD WORKS YOUTH WORK DAYS will start up again on Saturday, September 26 from 8:15 am to 3:45 pm. Spend a Saturday helping make repairs to homes for people in need in our area. All 7th through 12th graders are welcome to join us; if you're thinking about participating in Appalachia Service Project next summer, this is a great way to get some idea of what that ministry is all about! Sign up here by Wednesday, September 16 to participate: Sept. 26th Good Works Youth Work Day.

SUMMER 2027 YOUTH TRIP INFO SESSIONS (yes, already) - There are TWO big trips in the works for our youth next summer: The triennial (every-three-year) ELCA Youth Gathering June 28 to July 2 in Minneapolis, MN; and our annual Appalachia Service Project Work Week July 16-23. All 7th through 12th graders, and their parents, are encouraged to attend one of two information sessions to learn more about these opportunities:

  • St. Paul's Fellowship Hall on Sunday, September 13 from noon to 1:00 pm; or
  • St. Matthew's CLC on Sunday, September 13 from 4:00 to 5:00pm.

Registration for both of these trips open in October, so we will need to get our groups assembled soon!

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH PEER MINISTRY RETREAT - If you are in 9th through 12th grade and interested in being trained as a Peer Ministry Leader, reserve the weekend of November 13-15 on your calendar to attend a special retreat in Bethany Beach, DE. More information coming in early September!

Musical Notes from Lindsay

Sunday, August 16: Leadership Advice from Jethro: Exodus 18:13-27

Prelude: In Jesus Name (God of Possible)

The praise team performed this selection on August 2, and to help familiarize the congregation with this selection we will be doing it several times over the next few weeks. We will have the slides available during the prelude, in case anyone would like to sing along with us!

Gathering Song: We Are All One in Mission

The hymn tune of our gathering song today is called Kuortane (sometimes referred to as Nyland) and originated in Finland as a folk melody in the 19th century. The reading from Exodus describes Jethro's encouragement of Moses to share the leadership workload so that he does not become burnt out from the excessive burden. The text of our gathering song describes the unique part each of us play in our ministries within the church. Let this serve as a reminder that although our talents and specific ministries may be different, we all are one in mission. We are able to go further when we serve others from a place of love through our unified commission.

Choral Anthem: I Will Trust in You Lord

I am looking forward to working with the summer pick up choir to prepare this selection! Thank you to all those who are participating. If you are interested in joining the pick up choir, please meet us upstairs in Room 204 at 9 am before the service. All are welcome! We do a quick rehearsal, and sheet music will be available.

Song of the Day: Make Me A Servant

May we be vessels of Christ's love, so that we lead with our hearts when performing work in the service of others.

Sending Song: Forever

All that we do is rooted in God's love for us...sing praise!

Experience with Google Voice

If anyone has had experience with using Google Voice in their business or organization, would you please contact Cari in the church office? In our quest to always steward funds carefully, we are looking at this as an option for our phone system. Thanks!
