The Lenten Gospel of Matthew Worship Series

Last year, during Lent, we focused on the Gospel of Mark and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive and many folks asked that we continue with another Gospel. The next logical Gospel is Matthew which we will focus on this Lent. This is one of the best ways to grow in faith, reading the Bible and especially one of the Gospels! These accounts of Jesus’ life help us understand his ministry, miracles, teaching and ultimately the sacrifice of Jesus and his resurrection. This year in Lent (March 5-April 20, 2025) we will have the daily opportunity to read, or listen to the Gospel of Matthew. Additionally, the worship services in Lent will focus on what we have read. For the Wednesday evening Lenten services, we’ll be watching a movie version of The Gospel of Matthew, word for word from the Bible with actors on location acting out the text. Lastly, there will be small groups which will meet each week for Bible study on the sections of the daily Matthew readings. To sign up for daily texts or emails with the readings and an audio version or to express interest in a Bible study, please go to StPaulsLionville.org/events.

We especially need people who are willing to host a Bible study, either in-person or online. If you would like to learn more about this, please contact PastorStuart@StPaulsLionville.org or call 610-804-1740. We hope this series will be a blessing to you!

Marriage Vow Renewal

On Sunday, February 16 at both services there will be an opportunity to renew your marriage vows.

Many have taken this opportunity to celebrate their relationship in the past and we hope you will enjoy this celebration!

Chat and Chews Book Club

The Chat and Chews Sunday School Book Club will now meet on the THIRD Sunday of each month, after the late service in the Lounge next to the Hospitality Room. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, February 16.

We will be reading "The Day the World Came to Town," by Jim DeFede. You do not have to finish the book or even read it to join us in a lively and faithful discussion. Please contact Gwen Werner or call the church office for more information. Happy Reading!

Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Youth Fundraiser

The annual spaghetti dinner and youth fundraiser will be held on Friday evening, March 7 at St. Matthew's! As in past years, there will be two seatings, one at 5:30pm and one at 7:00 pm. Unlike past years, tickets will not be sold but a freewill offering will be collected to benefit the St. Matthew's/St. Paul's youth ministry; suggested donations are $10 per adult and $5 per child 12 and under, or $30 per family. To reserve your seats, go to this link: March 7th Youth Spaghetti Dinner.

Spaghetti Dinner Food Donations

Spaghetti dinner food donations are still needed! We are looking for people to donate food and supplies for our March 7 Spaghetti Dinner. Donations should be dropped off at St. Paul's by Thursday, March 6 or at St. Matthew's by noon Friday, March 7. Sign up here to contribute: Spaghetti Dinner Food Donations.

In March, we will be scheduling our next session (June through August) of volunteers to help support our worship services at St. Paul’s. Positions include altar care, assisting minister, lector, usher, and acolyte.

We are especially in need of:

  • Acolytes for both services

Our next activity day for younger families will be held from 3:00 to 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon, March 2 at St. Paul's! Families who have children from preschool through 5th grade are invited to join us for some active games, craft activities, and food; younger and older siblings are welcome, too! If you know you will be there, please sign up here to help us with planning: March 2nd Family Activity Day.

Lent Begins March 5

Our Lenten journey starts on Wednesday, March 5. We will have worship services at noon and 7:00 pm with Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. California Wildfire Support

We've all been watching the news with the horrible wildfires they've had in the Los Angeles area. This came even closer to home when one of our members told me that her grandson's school burned to the ground. As always, Lutheran Disaster Response is mobilized to help people with supplies and resources. If you would like to learn more or donate, please visit their website! Thank you so much!
