The Lenten Gospel of Matthew Worship Series

Last year, during Lent, we focused on the Gospel of Mark and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive and many folks asked that we continue with another Gospel. The next logical Gospel is Matthew which we will focus on this Lent. This is one of the best ways to grow in faith, reading the Bible and especially one of the Gospels! These accounts of Jesus’ life help us understand his ministry, miracles, teaching and ultimately the sacrifice of Jesus and his resurrection. This year in Lent (March 5-April 20, 2025) we will have the daily opportunity to read, or listen to the Gospel of Matthew. Additionally, the worship services in Lent will focus on what we have read. For the Wednesday evening Lenten services, we’ll be watching a movie version of The Gospel of Matthew, word for word from the Bible with actors on location acting out the text. Lastly, there will be small groups which will meet each week for Bible study on the sections of the daily Matthew readings. To sign up for daily texts or emails with the readings and an audio version or to express interest in a Bible study, please go to StPaulsLioville.org/events.

We especially need people who are willing to host a Bible study, either in-person or online. If you would like to learn more about this, please contact PastorStuart@StPaulsLionville.org or call 610-804-1740. We hope this series will be a blessing to you!

St. Paul's Thrift Store Opening!

Our first St. Paul’s pop-up thrift store will be held on Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Parsonage. We will also have the parsonage open until 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 2 for a preview of the sale. Proceeds will go towards renovations to the parsonage and local charities. Come find some bargains and help out a great cause! Please contact Jennifer Pindle with questions.

Chat and Chews Book Club

The Chat and Chews Sunday School Book Club will now meet on the THIRD Sunday of each month, after the late service in the Lounge next to the Hospitality Room. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, February 16.

We will be reading "The Day the World Came to Town," by Jim DeFede. You do not have to finish the book or even read it to join us in a lively and faithful discussion. Please contact Gwen Werner or call the church office for more information. Happy Reading!

Our New Director of Music!

We are very pleased to welcome Martin Hinkley as the new Director of Music at St. Paul's. Our discerning team was blessed to have a number of great candidates and Martin stood out as the best!

Martin has taught all levels of vocal and instrumental music in the public schools of Pennsylvania and Arizona. Martin has a Bachelor’s degree in music education from Millersville University and a Master’s degree in music history from West Chester University. He feels equally comfortable conducting a concert choir as well as a symphonic band. Martin is a vocalist and a trumpeter and continues to perform in the Lancaster Chamber Singers and the Lancaster British Brass Band. Martin grew up in a Lutheran Church where he began singing the Kyrie portion of the service while still in high school. His father is a retired ELCA minister. Martin has worked with church music ensembles for the past 15 years and is excited to begin working with the musicians at St. Paul’s Lutheran.

Martin will be concluding his employment at St. Paul’s in Fleetwood, PA and will start on February 10 and you’ll get to meet him at worship on Sunday, February 16. He’ll be in the church office, but during this transition time if you want to meet him it would be best to make an appointment.

Martin can be reached at the church office at 610-363-6264 ext. 6 and his email address will be  Martin@StPaulsLionville.org.

Also, many thanks to our discerning team of Brad Rice, Brian Lloyd, Emily Lloyd, John Peiffer, Kelly Grant, and Pastor Stuart for their hard work and faithfulness to this process. Please be patient during this time of transition and keep St. Paul's in your prayers!

California Wildfire Support

We've all been watching the news with the horrible wildfires they've had in the Los Angeles area. This came even closer to home when one of our members told me that her grandson's school burned to the ground. As always, Lutheran Disaster Response is mobilized to help people with supplies and resources. If you would like to learn more or donate, please visit their website! Thank you so much!
