A Word from our Rector

.

Happy New year!

During the season of Epiphany, we will focus on beginning simple spiritual practices we can do daily to help us love like Jesus.

Church is a school for learning to love like Jesus, a mentor once told me. As such, we will have lessons, an invitation to practice and then share how it went and what you learned. In this way, we will learn together.

Lesson One: Our True Identity

You are God’s (Son or Daughter), the beloved with whom God is well pleased.

While we are given new adoption papers at our baptism, we need to do some renewing of our mind and practices to believe it and then live it.

Ironically, the people who most need this good news are very often the most difficult for us to see as beloved. They are the ones that most need to know and be seen as beloved beyond their actions. Isn’t this what God does for us? He sees us through Christ unblemished and he loves us as He loves Jesus.

Practice as you go:

Pray: Lord please Bless______, in Jesus Name.

Open your eyes as you go. Who do you see? Ask the Lord to Bless them, even pray God bless those you have negative feelings about. It will actually help your heart.

Ideas: bless my family, my church, my city, the mayor, the school and all in it as I pass, the president and president elect.

Extra credit: Say to your spouse, children and grandchildren: “________, you are God’s son/daughter, the Beloved; with you God is well pleased and so am I.” Luke 3:22

Please let me know if you have an experience doing this simple practice and want to share on Sunday during announcements.

Mini-Retreat

Praying for a Word for 2025

Saturday, January 18, 10-12, Parish Hall

I invite you to go slow as we enter 2025. Take 5-10 minutes to sit in silence or go on a slow walk - allowing God to connect with you.

This mini-retreat is another way to go slow. It is designed to help us make space to open ourselves up to listen for a word with which to view one’s life this year. It can help frame our life’s experiences and provide an opening for insight from God as we journey through the year.

Come away for a time of quiet contemplation with God. We will open our time together with prayer, a guided meditation. Participants will have the option to a.) go and pray and/or journal in their favorite spot (prompts provided) or b.) for external processors I will be available to listen with them. Then we will gather for those who wish to share their experience.

For the past ten years, I have discovered a word or intention for the year which has brought me into deeper relation with God and myself.

I’m available for questions prior to the event for those who want more information. A sign up sheet will be in the Narthex.

January 11, 2:00 - 4:00

Our sewing room will be open this Saturday from 2-4pm. Our project this week is to make some oven mitts for the St. Timothy's kitchen, and also to see whether this is a suitable project for a future sewing class.

We have some community members who need easy access to a sewing machine. If you know of anyone like this, they should feel free to use one of ours during our open hours.

Reach out to Sondra Griner if you have any questions or ideas for this ministry.
