Lent a Season of Renewal

Lent: A Season of Renewal

Lent is a sacred season... A time of reflection, repentance, and renewal. Through fasting, prayer, and simplicity, we remember the sacrifice of Christ and draw near to the heart of God. Lent reminds us that real transformation is a journey of the heart that leads us closer to the light of Resurrection.

We Seek you Ash Wednesday

We Seek You

This meaningful video is a corporate prayer seeking God in the morning and the evening, in brokenness and weakness, in confession and repentance. In this humble prayer, we ask God to examine our motives, purify our intentions, forgive us our sins. Let us seek God, our strength and our portion forever!

A Prayer for Lent

This reflective video is a prayer to prepare our hearts in the season of Lent or on Ash Wednesday. As we approach the glory of Easter Sunday, we remember the depth of our need for him.

Dear Beloved of God,

On Ash Wednesday, some came for Ash Wednesday services to be marked with ashes from Palm Sunday and to mark a new beginning of time with God - to begin again. It is not too late to begin again with God. I urge you on behalf of the church to choose to begin again! To choose to trust in the goodness of God and His desire for us to be blessed and be a blessing. May we choose to let go of resentments and forgive as God has forgiven us. Not to accept bad behavior or being wronged but to let God deal with it. We forgive and are set free. So that we can love like Jesus loves in humility. May we surrender our wills and let God's divine love flow through us like the very breath of God which animates our lives.

We are not meant to do this faith journey alone. Come and join us on Sundays at 8:30 or 10:30 in worship and at one of our Lenten gatherings. May we all become more fully alive as a result of our Lenten journey.

Here are some videos for you about Lent.

See you on the Journey,

Love,

FHS,

Pastor Robin+

Got Questions about why we do what we do as Episcopalians or about faith? Join Us This Sunday, March 9 in the Welcome Center

Join Pastor Robin for an informal time to ask your questions or share your challenges. There are no dumb questions!

Q: Who is the celebrant?

A: The Pastor leading the service.

Q: What if I am not sure what I believe? Only what I no longer believe to be true?

A: You are in the right place to come and see and explore what you believe to be true. We make space for people to be where they are on their faith journey.

Daughters of the King

The Spring Daughters of the King Diocesan Assembly was held in Waco at St. Alban's February 21st and 22nd. Kim Lehnhoff, Angela McCabe and Mary Young attended. The theme was gratitude for all God's creation and beauty. Bishop Fisher led the Eucharist on Friday night with a sermon focusing on God's wanting to please us with His creation. The Glory Bound Singers, of which Mary Young is a member, provided beautiful music for the gathering. Saturday morning began with Morning Prayer followed by a business meeting and speakers. Many great ideas were shared and fellowship enjoyed.

Our next DOK meeting is Sunday, March 9th at noon at Emily Osborn's home. The ladies are encouraged to bring a book, devotional, app or anything that has influenced your prayer life to share with the group for our formation time. All are welcome!

Community Fellowship & Fun

Daylight Saving Time begins Sun, Mar 9, 2025.

Carlisle's Speaks on Spirituality and Community

A transcription of the article:

... he said, suffering and tragedy are spiritual experiences and must be understood as such ... "it is well to ask oneself when one is going through any experience ... how can this help me grow, what is God saying to me at this moment?"

He said, we need God and we need one another ... "we are the covenanted people of God who depend on one another for mutual support, caring and encouragement."

He advised his listeners to go home and write their own obituaries "to see what you might have to say about your life ... regardless of how we see ourselves, we must remember that we are all important ... we may need repentance ... we are all sinners but when we repent we get a kind of honest understanding of ourselves that becomes a spiritual experience."

This is what Lent can bring us.

Birding Field Trip

Sunday March 23rd

Join Ron Weeks for a casual birding trip around the Brazoria NWR auto tour loop on Sunday March 23rd. We will have simple sandwich fixings in the parish hall, or you can bring your own sack lunch. You can carpool with Ron (room for 3 others) or car caravan behind him in your own vehicle leaving from the church around noon. Or you can meet us at the refuge Discovery Center (29.059861, -95.268258) at 12:30. Call Ron at 979-285-8824 if you get lost or are trying to catch up with us. If we are lucky long time refuge volunteer and school group educator, Denis James, will join us and show us some of his favorite spots.

The trip will be largely by car and involve just short walks as we explore the refuge, and Ron will show you a variety of water birds (big and easy to put in his telescope) and a few smaller land birds. We have set an ending time of around 2PM but Ron is willing to stay longer for those interested. This is also a great time to learn about birding apps such as Merlin that identifies birds from the sounds as heard by your cell phone. Fingers crossed for good weather.

Pancake Supper Thanks

Thanks to everyone who made this year's Pancake Supper a success! From planning, decorating, cooking, serving and cleaning, it take a village to pull off such a big event. Special thanks for Kim and Mark Lehnhoff for coordinating!

Friday Game Night

Thanks to all who came out for our Friday Fellowship Game Night! We had 17 people in attendance. Jon Cox was the master of ceremonies and provided a great selection of games to appeal to all age ranges. There will be more fun to come!

Senior Warden

Dale Rasco Memorial Prayer Room

The ladies of Daughter of the King are creating a prayer room across from the Coke machine. The room will include many different modalities of prayer to appeal to different age groups and people. The prayer room will be available to the parents from Kindermusik as well as the Plantation Group. It was decided to name this wonderful space the "Dale Rasco Memorial Prayer Room" as a tribute to a woman whose life embodied prayer in many different forms. Look for the changes over the next couple of weeks. Our hope is to have the room dedicated by the Bishop during his visit in May. If you have any questions please see Angela McCabe or Kim Lehnhoff.

In Memoriam

Dear Beloved Family of Faith,

Please join us this Saturday, March 8th, at 10:30 am to celebrate the life of Jim Halbert. Please join us as we seek to make this a joyous celebration of Jim's life and homecoming, and pray God’s comfort for James and their families and friends.

A catered reception will follow the funeral service. Members of St. Timothy’s are invited to bring desserts for the reception. Contact Ron Weeks for any questions about bringing desserts.

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, Jim Halbert. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Let us also pray for all who mourn, that they may cast their care on God, and know the consolation of his love, in Jesus name. Amen.

2025 Lent Madness

As you and I move into Lent, join me in following Lent Madness on Facebook or through their website. In the fun, yet deeply thoughtful process of match ups between saints and voting or choosing one saint to possibly move forward in the bracket, we learn and grow by learning about the lives of these saints who have gone before us.

This year’s bracket consists of: Ancient Apostolic; Mostly Monastics; Royals Round Up; Modern Mayhem. Each day beginning on March 6th, you will vote for the saint whose story you find to be the most compelling. The goal is to choose so that you ultimately select the saint who wins the Golden Halo.

Each day I will share in our St. Timothy’s private Facebook group, the match up of the day. Mark and I will update our poster located in the hallway toward our Parish Hall.

As Tim and Scott say, “This year’s saints include a mix of heavyweights and lesser-known saints, all of whom followed Jesus faithfully in their own day and in their own way.” Lent brings us to a time of reflection and growing in faith. As I, each year, read and vote—as silly as Lent Madness sounds—I find myself thinking deeply of my commitment as a Christian following Jesus.
