A Word from our Rector

Dear Beloved of God,

February is known as the month love is celebrated across the globe. The Good News its not just for couples but for everyone.

The True Meaning of Valentine’s Day as explained by my friend, Donna Partow.

“Did you know Valentine’s Day was originally a Christian holiday? St. Valentine was a priest in 3rd century Rome, known for secretly performing marriages when the emperor had banned them. Before his execution, he wrote a letter to his jailer’s daughter, signed “Your Valentine”—inspiring the tradition of sending love notes.

💡 Let’s reclaim the heart of this month or day—not about romance, but about sacrificial love, faithfulness, and commitment in all relationships!

📖 “Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14”

What if we sent love notes to those who might go unnoticed to most people or we know are having a rough time right now? ❤️

Sending you all love and a reminder no matter where you are we can all meet in the heart of Christ!

This week’s challenge in the school of learning to love like Jesus: one moment at a time.

Wait 5 minutes, 5 breaths on God when:

  • Your stress is rising,
  • You don’t know what to do,
  • You’re tempted to lash out at someone,
  • Or, just wanting peace.
  • Waiting Five minutes makes room for God, when sought, to be our guide through the Holy Spirit.
  • This is how we seek the Holy Spirit to empower us to experience Jesus’s love.

Love,

FHS,

Pastor Robin+

Lenten Series Opportunities

Looking for meaningful connection?

Check this out!

We are doing something different this Lent. As One church, united in Christ, we will have gatherings at different places and times. These groups will be hosted in homes, restaurants, a pub or the church anytime during Lent. Hosts decide when and how long they will meet. You get to select which group works best for you. This is a great opportunity to grow connections and to invite friends to join.

Ideally, each small group will have a member host and a separate member facilitate. There will be training for the facilitators. Please sign at church or let Angela or Pastor Robin know you are willing to host a group, when and where.

We are looking for 4-6 people to host. So far hosts include: Pastor Robin and Angela McCabe.

Your 2025 Vestry

This Sunday, we celebrated our new and continuing vestry:

  • For 3 years, Janet Hicks (not pictured), Dalton Fox and Steve Freemen.
  • For 1 year, Sr. Warden Angela McCabe, and Steve Freemen, Jr. Warden.
  • Vestry person appointed to finish Margaret Dodson’s 1 year term: Rich Tillman (not pictured)
  • Continuing vestry: Charles Collins, Jon Cox, Chris Hutchison, Rebecca Klimek.

An Old Sign Made New

Thank you, Mary Young, for your power washing magic on our brick sign!

The Full Serenity Prayer

A great tool for when you are feeling anxious. Use the first portion of all of this powerful prayer to remind you God’s got you and is in charge. Trust him!

God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

As it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make things right

If I surrender to His Will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life

And supremely happy with Him

Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.

Thanks for Feeding our Neighbors!

Thanks you all for your generous donations for the food insecure neighbors around us! Yesterday, Rick and I dropped off your 305 pounds. Wow. That's a lot of food!

Top Food Basket Donation Needs

The next time you go grocery shopping, please remember our neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity. The needs at the Food Basket vary over time, depending on donations and what they can get from Houston Food Bank. Currently, the top needs are:

  • Soup, all flavors and sizes.
  • Canned beans, especially pinto
  • Canned Peaches or Mixed Fruit
  • Diced Tomatoes

The Food Basket also gives out a limited amount of health and hygiene supplies, so you are encouraged to donate those as well.

Regarding your egg carton donations... If you wish to donate, we can use 12 or 6 egg cartons, Styrofoam or cardboard. The Food Basket is not using 18 egg cartons or clear plastic ones, so they will be thrown out or recycled.
