A Note From Our Rector

Thank you for your prayers and care for me and David. It has been sobering to realize, we are not immune to health trials as many of you have endured or are enduring. Our faith in God is carrying us and sustaining us when we feel weak and wonder “how long” Oh Lord will recovery take? The good news is we are getting better. I have been struggling with breathing issues and a severe cough - the best way to describe it is something like walking pneumonia. Rest has been the best medicine of all. David's rehab is going well and he is getting stronger and stronger.

While sometimes growth on the outside seems imperceptible, we can trust God is doing a mighty work on our inner being. Thank you for your prayers! Keep them up - that we keep getting stronger and breathing with ease.

I want to assure you of my love and commitment to you as your pastor. This is a temporary blip on what I hope will be a long relationship. I am aware that sometimes not knowing what’s happening can cause anxiety. But I urge you to trust God is at work in ways we can’t hope or imagine. Just for perspective, many clergy take 3 or 4 weeks at a time during the summer for vacation. My time away has been less fun but very productive. As you know, I like to work and find the exhaustion from 10 weeks of coughing frustrating.

But in the midst of it all, God has been reminding me of who you are as faithful followers of Jesus and his desire for you and I as the body of Christ in Lake Jackson.

In January of 2022, God had me paint a painting reminding you that you are:
like mighty oaks planted beside streams of living water bearing fruit in all seasons. Many of you have a mature faith and know how to put down deeper roots to draw from the water below the surface. He’s been reminding me of this word for you again this week.

Like the woman at the well Jesus offers us love and acceptance of who we are and knows all we have done. AND He has given us streams of living water bubbling up into eternity. Our task is to get into the flow of the streams of living water. This starts with laying down our agenda and trusting God has good for us all and letting go. For those of us who like to think we are in control - this can be very uncomfortable and even scary. That’s when have to remind ourselves of God’s goodness and His desire to bless us more than we could hope or imagine. Trusting God is with us, for us and even guiding us - yes, even in the midst of our trials. 🥰
I look forward to being with you soon. In the meantime, enjoy hearing from different clergy their message of God's love for you!

Class: Equipping to Make Disciples
We are called to share our faith and make disciples. What if it was as simple as blessing others along your path everyday?

If you’ve got a desire to learn practical ways to be a disciple and make disciples -this course is for you!

Gary Jones, Colinda Friehauf and Pastor Robin have taken this course and found greater joy in their faith journey as a result.

Jesus trained twelve disciples, who were ordinary people, to take His message to the ends of the earth. In Luke 10 He also sent seventy-two others (seventy in some translations) to take the message ahead of Him – again ordinary people, just like you and me, whose names we do not even know. In L- 10-T they are the people whose example we follow for life today!
L-10-T is a daily class and evangelism training. It is conducted online via Zoom at 7-8p.m. starting on August 1 until August 31. To learn more or sign up, contact Gary Jones to get Zoom access and find out what class materials will be needed.

Nursery Open for 10:30 Service
Nursery Volunteers Needed
An attended nursery will be open starting this Sunday at the 10:30 service. Kerry Cormier will be waiting for any Littles who need a playtime place, so their parents can attend the church service.

We need some others generous volunteers to help out. Due to safety reasons, we have to have 2 adults in the room. We need someone on standby at the service, so if a Little comes in, they can come into the nursery to help out. Contact Kerry Cormier or the church office for details or to volunteer.
Summer Changes
This summer, we are trying some new things to make our buildings more visitor-friendly and to be better stewards of our resources.

Directional Signs make it easier for visitors to find vital locations such as restrooms, the nursery and the Parish Hall.

Our Worship Leaflets will be reused throughout the summer season. Information that changes from week to week, such as readings, prayers and announcements, will be in a bulletin insert. Please take your insert home, so the week's announcements are at your fingertips. Please leave your bulletin at church so it can be reused.

Matthew 18:20
Those in Need of Self-Compassion or Compassion for Others
Did you know practicing self- compassion has proven health benefits. On her TEDx talk on self-esteem versus self-compassion, Dr. Kristin Neff with University of Texas, shares how self-esteem is based on comparison. However, self-compassion grows not only health for self but care and compassion for others. Research has shown it to reduce stress and the negative health effects of stress, anxiety, blood pressure and more. More information can be found at www.self-compassion.org
or TEDx: The Space Between Self Esteem and Self Compassion.

I highly recommend you listen to the meditations she has from 6-20 minutes long on this site.
