St Joseph High School - A Catholic College Preparatory School
Announcing St Joseph High School's 2019
Valedictorian & Salutatorian!
The first sign of spring at St Joes is not the robin, but rather the announcement of the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian. It marks the beginning of the long goodbye to the Class of 2019, and it always takes me by surprise. How did that happen? St Joes is a busy place. It’s easy to get distracted, but the memo inevitably comes from guidance: the highest achieving academicians at St Joseph High School are: Anna Argulian , our Valedictorian; and Chris Rosetti , our Salutatorian.

To Anna and Chris, we shout out a loud “hooray!!” Four long years of dedication and consistent achievement among a very competitive class that has impressed some of the best schools in the country. We are very proud. Anna has chosen the University of Chicago (over Dartmouth), and we are trying to talk Chris into choosing Boston College over a number of worthy alternatives. Wherever they go, they will be missed at St Joes. There are not two finer individuals to lead us into this season of reflection on the accomplishments of the great Class of 2019.
St Joes Visits The Big Easy!
Last week, SJ Cadets were thrilled to take a trip to New Orleans as part of our Francis Xavier Immersion Program.

In addition to visiting one of the most historic cities in our nation, students gained valuable service experience in: environmental sustainability, education, housing and homelessness, and neighborhood revitalization. While in the city, students were also able to tour Loyola University and the Louisiana Bayou.

Multicultural Club Attends Student Diversity Leadership Conference!
On Sunday, April 7, members of the Multicultural Club attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference hosted by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools. The theme of the conference was Ripples of Change: Building Awareness and Taking Action . Students discussed issues of diversity and inclusion and learned strategies and leadership skills for building more inclusive and welcoming school communities.

Carla Guirguis ’20 said, “SDLC was an extremely beneficial and positive experience for me. The conference increased my knowledge on topics I was familiar with such as colorism and overall opened my eyes to the different struggles people face every day including those with disabilities and those of the LGBTQ community. Having discussions about imperative topics including race as well as issues plaguing our society with people outside of my school allowed be to gain deeper insight and a better understanding of how other people are affected by issues of race, gender, family, and expectations.”

Librarian Recommended: I, Claudia by Mary McCoy
Claudia McCarthy is the (possibly unreliable) narrator of this modern take on I, Claudius . She recounts 4 years at the exclusive Los Angeles Imperial Day Academy. She is an amateur historian and an outsider who becomes more and more enmeshed in the inner political circle of the student senate and honor council. She has no friends at school, only potential supporters and adversaries. Teachers and parents are distant and mostly unimportant: the students determine who is popular, who is elected to office, and whose reputation will remain untarnished. This Lord of the Flies-like work is packed with political intrigue and maneuvering. The plot twists and expert foreshadowing will keep you guessing.
