What a week it has been for our graduates and their parents! We hope each and every member of the Class of 2019 will look back fondly at their time at St Joes, and return to visit often! Remember: Once a Cadet, Always a Cadet!

Students Organize "Miles for Marie" Charity Walk: This Sunday, June 9!
SJ Freshman, Mallory Doyle and Grace DeDonato  have organized a charity walk in honor of their kindergarten teacher, Marie Adams, who passed away from cancer.
We hope you'll support the inaugural launch of "Miles for Marie," on Sunday, June 9, at the Shelton Riverwalk. Proceeds will be donated in Marie’s honor to The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp which was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman. In addition, a scholarship will be created allowing Marie’s memory to forever live on. 

It’s All About States: SJ Athletics Update!
Congratulations to all of our Spring Athletes and Teams. We are so proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to watching you #WinEverday.

  • Girls Tennis - Congratulations to Gabriella Gatto, who advanced to the All-State tournament today at Wesleyan College. 
  • Boys Tennis – Congratulations to Drew Morris for placing second in the Class S Championship game on Saturday!
  • Boys Baseball – On Saturday, SJ Baseball defeated Northwestern in the Quarterfinals! They will play in the Semifinals on June 4 against Rockville.
  • Girls LAX – On May 30, Girls Lacrosse defeated Pomperaug (17-11) and advance to the semifinals! They will play #1 Guilford today at Cheshire HS at 5pm.
  • Boys LAX – On Saturday, Boys Lacrosse defeated Somers in the Quarterfinals! They move on to the Semifinals on June 5 against Sheehan! 
  • Girls Track
  • Kayla Clark won the Class MM Championship in the 100m hurdles AND won 3rd in the triple jump.
  • Nia Christie won 2nd in the high jump event.
  • The team finished 6th out of 38 teams. Clark, Christie, and Olivia Johnson will compete on today in the state open!
  • Boys Track -
  • Louis Tuccio came in 3rd in the shot put.
  • Daniel Criscio placed 4th in the Javelin.
  • The 4x100 relay team took 5th. Each of these athletes are also advancing to the State Open today at 2pm at Willow Brook Park.
  • Darren Warren placed 7th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.03 breaking the school record!
  • The 4x400 relay team placed 9th with a time of 3:35.17 running the second fastest time in school history.
  • Dharon Greenfield ran the second fastest time in school history in the 400 meter dash with a personal best of 52.69
  • Andrew Ross placed 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.06. Ross is second all time in the record books.
Cadet Spotlight: Dante Criscio & Chris Rossetti Receive Principal's Award!
On Tuesday, May 28, Dante Criscio and Chris Rossetti were each recipients of the 2019 Fairfield County Association of Secondary School Principals Scholar Leader Award.  

The award is presented to two seniors who demonstrate academic prowess and leadership.

Meet SJ's New Boys Soccer Coach: Thomas Connolly!
St Joes is proud to welcome Thomas Connolly as our Boys Soccer Coach! Coach Connolly has been working with Everton America and Soccer Extreme for 5 years but has been involved with soccer from a young age. He has played for several successful clubs in Ireland, winning both leagues and cups multiple times.

Coach Connolly has been coaching 12 years. He's coached with the Wilton Soccer Association, Wilton High School, and was the head coach of Classical Magnet School Girls Varsity in 2014-2015. Coach Connolly currently resides in Wilton, CT with his wife and their two young children.
Hot off the Press – Read St Joe’s 2019 Amaranth!
The Amaranth is St Joseph High School's annual student-edited literary and artistic journal.

Amaranth is published each May and celebrates the best of poetry, short story, essay, photography and illustration by SJ students, faculty and staff.

A huge thanks to all those who have contributed to this year's issue. We hope you enjoy!

SJ Alumni: Save the Date for our Cadet Class Act Challenge!
Thanks, once again, to the Class of 2019 -- with a 50% participation rate to their senior giving campaign!

But, SJ Alumni, it's now up to you:

For 48 hours (June 12 - June 13), the alumni class with the highest participation will be recognized as our  Class Act Champions ! There is also a $10,000 match opportunity for NEW alumni donors to the challenge. Give a gift and it will be DOUBLED by a very generous donor!

The class will be recognized in our 2018-2019 Annual Report, during Homecoming Weekend 2019, and earn some serious bragging rights! Your class gift directly impacts the experience of current and future Cadets and builds your class’ legacy of support!

Consider Donating to a Summer Food Drive!
A huge thanks to Grace DeDonato '23 and her family for spearheading this great effort! St Joseph High School has teamed up with Spooner House to fight hunger In Operation, Yes We "Can"!

On Friday, May 31, Cadets received bags during homeroom for this Summer Food Drive. Please consider filling these bag with non-perishable food items for the Spooner House in Shelton. Students can drop off their bags at St Joes throughout the next two weeks or bring them directly to Spooner House on our designated food drive date: Saturday, June 22 between 9am-11am .

Gearing Up for Final Exams!
Underclass Final Exams will be given Thursday, June 6 – Tuesday, June 11.
The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, June 6: Periods F & E
Friday, June 7: Periods D & C
Monday, June 10: Periods B & A
Tuesday, June 11: Period X
Tuesday, June 11: Make-up day
Wednesday, June 12: Make-up day

  • Students only need to report to exams for which they are scheduled.
  • Students are expected to wear their school uniform on exam days.
  • No student will be considered for a make-up exam unless an acceptable doctor’s note is presented to Mrs DiBuono.
  • All obligations (financial, book return, sport uniform return, etc.) must be met in order to take exams.
The time schedule for exams is as follows:
  • 8:00am report to first exam room
  • 10:00am report to second exam room
  • 12:00pm dismissal
Cadets: Don't Forget to Pick Up Your Yearbook!
Any students who have purchased a yearbook should pick them up this week from Mrs Martinez' office in the Media Center. Parents, if you have ordered a yearbook for your student, please let them know!

There is currently a waiting list for Yearbooks and on Wednesday, June 5, we will begin to sell off remaining books.
Classroom Spotlight: It's The "Best of the Bards"!
On Friday afternoon, students in Mrs Sorrentino's World Lit & Composition classes took part in the Freshman Shakespearean Recitation Contest!

Cadets  competed for the title of “The Best of the Bards” by presenting a memorized monologue or soliloquy to judges Mr G and Mrs Marino!
