St Joseph High School - A Catholic College Prep School
Remembering a Beloved "Face of St Joes".
On November 5, 2018, we were saddened to hear about the passing of Ken Mayo.

Ken was the face of St Joes for many years. I often thought he would be the one to write our history. Football coach, religion teacher, dean of students, vice-principal, principal. He worked with every administration—the Marists, the Franciscans, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Monsignor Shea, Mr Bishop—and he told the best stories. Certainly, his wisdom and experience embodied our spirit. His passing is sad news.

More when we have more. Meantime, please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Honoring Those Who Served - Veterans Day Assembly
On Friday, November 9, St Joseph High School held its annual Veterans Day Assembly, honoring the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces.

This year's assembly was particularly special as SJ Cadets, Lindsay Giovannone '20 and Brian Melanson '20 each read their winning essays on the importance of Veterans Day. Both students were awarded $500 scholarships by The WorkPlace at Port Five Naval Veterans Bridgeport, CT.  Click here to read their essays.

In addition, the program included a guest speaker and the Presentation of Colors by the Port Five, as well as the presentation of a gift to the organization, Freedom Guide Dogs. For the past two weeks, NHS students have been selling American Flag pins for the organization and were able to provide them with a check for $1200. Way to go, Cadets!

Librarian Recommended: Book of the Week!
Life is already unusual for 17-year-old Ella, who sees her world through the lens of synesthesia—everyone around her has an aura that reveals certain emotions and truths. At least, until the mysterious Alec shows up on the scene with an invisible aura and a disturbing revelation about her parents’ deaths. Was there foul play? Were they murdered? Why has nobody ever told her the truth? As Ella, her friends Rory and Max, and Alec work against the clock to uncover the truth, Ella’s whole support system becomes suspect—her grandmother, uncle, godfather, and of course Alec—and her life may even be at risk.
