O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I am writing this on Wednesday, as our youth and adult leaders are halfway through this year’s Veram Vitam. I have been with them until Tuesday night and will return on Thursday to finish the week with them. I can’t tell you how proud I am of our youth. To bring everyone up to speed, our youth are at the Valle Crucis Conference Center in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, about a 90 minute drive from Winston-Salem. A long story short, Valle Crucis was founded by the second bishop of North Carolina, Levi Ives. Bishop Ives was strongly influenced by the Oxford Movement (catholic revival in Anglicanism) and created Valle Crucis (valley of the cross) for a missionary station, training school for ministry, and a classical and agricultural school for boys. Later it became home of the Order of the Holy Cross, a monastic community within the Diocese of North Carolina. The illustrious vision of Valle Crucis came to end when Bishop Ives resigned. The monastic order and the work associated with it all stopped. In the 166 years that have followed, the parish church has been reorganized and a beautiful conference center stand on the grounds first purchased by Bishop Ives.
For the past two years, our youth have traveled to Valle Crucis to live Bishop Ives’s vision. They live in community, serve the Watauga area through works of mercy, and pray the Church’s services throughout the day. We call it Veram Vitam - life that really is life - after St Paul’s words to St Timothy in 1 Timothy 6.19.
The youth are in the chapel at 7:20 for Morning Prayer. Mass begins at 7:35 and we are at breakfast just after 8:00. We work from 9:30 to 1:00 and then rest through recreation until Evening Prayer at 5:30. Dinner follows at 6:00 and Bible Study is at 7:30. We conclude our prayers with sung compline at 8:30.
While I know they are normal teenagers, I have yet to hear a complaint about the routine. I cannot express how impressed I am with their reverence and willingness to work, pray, speak, and sing. Thank your for your support in their mission and continue to pray for them as they, I assure you, are praying for us. Doing to opens the door to life that really is life.
N.B., pictures of the first three days are below in this email.

This past Sunday after the 9am mass, I met a lovely couple who where interested in joining St Timothy's and handed me their visitor card. I placed the card in the priests' sacristy as I was preparing for the 11am. When I returned, the card was gone. If you moved the card, would you let me know where I can find it? If you are a part of the lovely couple that handed me the card, would you message me?
Thank you!

Lord Jesus Christ,
who hast built thy Church
upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets:
mercifully grant that building upon thee, the chief
cornerstone, with beauty and substance,
we may raise here at St Timothy's a
faithful people and a holy temple to thy glory.
May we and generations yet to come learn to praise thee
more and more in spirit and in truth.
Amen.

This Sunday we will sing two hymns that speak to Christ as the foundation of the Church: "The Church's one foundation" and "Christ is made the sure foundation." In 1866 Samuel Stone, wrote "The Church's one foundation" based on Article 9 of the Apostle’s Creed: “The Holy Catholic (Universal) Church." Now an affirmation of Christ as the foundation of our faith, we sing this hymn with those who have gone before us and with Christians around the world, declaring that beyond any theological differences, cultural divides, and variances in practice, we are all part of the same body, the body of Christ" (from hymnary.org).
"Christ is made the sure foundation" is a favorite hymn in Episcopal and Anglican churches on both sides of the Atlantic. The text, translated in
Hymns Ancient and Modern from a 7th century Latin text, proclaims that Christ, the "head an cornerstone" binds all the Church in one. Henry Purcell (1659-1695), one of England's finest composers who wrote anthems for Queen Mary II's funeral and for the coronation of King James II , composed the tune to this hymn,
Westminster Abbey. Purcell was organist of the Chapel Royal and at Westminster Abbey, where he is buried adjacent to the organ. His epitaph reads: "
Here lyes Henry Purcell Esq., who left this life and is gone to that blessed place where only his harmony can be exceeded."
Prelude 9am
Violin Sonata No. 3 in F Major: Adagio & Allegro, George F. Handel, Peter Ragonesi, violin
Voluntary 11am
Toccata quinta, Girolamo Frescobaldi
Hymns:
Lord, whose love through humble service, No. 610
Take my life, and let it be, No. 707
The Church's one foundation, No. 525
Christ is made the sure foundation, No. 518
Anthem:
O Jesus, joy of loving hearts [hymn 650], Jesu dulcis memoria
Communion music 9am
Violin Sonata No. 3 in F Major: Largo & Allegro, George F. Handel, Peter Ragonesi, violin

Fugue #2 in G Minor, George F. Handel

Our altars in the Church and Chapel are adorned weekly with flowers beautifully arranged by St. Timothy’s Flower Guild. Frequently the flowers are given in honor and/or memory of loved ones. The suggested donation to sponsor the flowers is $60. Is there a date coming up when you would like to honor someone or remember someone with a flower dedication? If so, please contact Ellen Turner at [email protected].
Also, are you interested in assisting the Flower Guild in arranging the flowers? If so, please contact Lea Thullbery at [email protected].

The Abraham Project | from the Alumni
|
|
I have been stumbling over words, typing and deleting in spare moments from my internship here in South Africa, trying to write a small reflection on The Abraham Project. It is a daunting task. Dare I quantify the means God chose to deliver my call to ministry? My
husband?!
Of course not. It is impossible to do it justice.
But perhaps the best thing to say about TAP is this: when I left Carolina I was searching for how to live for God and TAP gave me a way. It instilled its values into me, those of service, simplicity, community, and faith. We become our truest selves the closer we grow to the Triune God, the Trinity community embodied, and from that place of true self in Christ, I became courageous enough to accept my call. I became full enough to fall in love. It was a slog, at times, as disciplines can be. But it was worth it. Our selves and our community grew stronger for it.
I will always be a product of The Abraham Project, because our Rule of Life is with me still. I will seek to incorporate radical hospitality into my life. I will try to be constantly considerate. I will pray. I will serve. I will love my neighbor and my enemy. And when I inevitably fall short on these, I will ask forgiveness and look to my God and my community to help me find my way again. That's what TAP was about - making our lives for Christ, in all aspects. That's a life's task, one likely to never to be fully completed, but a ten month intensive is a very good start.
As a Christian, I always look to Resurrection, but even if this is the end, The Abraham Project gave life to those who joined it, and supported us as we followed God's call - like Abram - to become something different. To become someone different.
To St. Timothy's, the TAP board, St. Tim's staff, Becky Johnston, John Roberts, Mary Anne Squire and Fr. Steve - thank you for following your own call to make this organization happen. Thank you for the time and the work you put into it and us. And, for perhaps the last time - thanks, TAP.
Katie Harper (TAP 4.0) and Paul Spellings (TAP 5.0) were married in October 2017. Katie is a Master of Divinity candidate, 2020, at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, while Paul is a J.D. Candidate, 2020, for the Emory School of Law. The Harper-Spellings are apart this summer while Paul works for a public defender’s office and Katie interns in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

The
Society of St Joseph of Arimathea (SoJA) began in December 2016 at St Timothy's. Our mission is to provide funds and space for the burial of children. SoJA has helped 13 families in the burial of their children by covering the cost of cremation. We are also creating a place for burial and national shrine for this ministry. Read
this article published in The Living Church for more information.

St Michael Law Enforcement Chapel
|
|
The St Michael Law Enforcement Chapel is a place of prayer (chapel) and rest (hospice) for members of our law enforcement community and first responders. The Chapel is located directly below the narthex and is accessible 24/7 via keypad. The kitchen is restocked daily thanks to financial donations from friends and members (we make a regular Costco run with a list of our officer's favorite items). We also provide devotional items for our officers, especially St Michael pendants. To date, 34 officers are wearing the pendants and numerous others wear the St Michael velcro patch.

Why do we report giving and attendance?
Following Jesus Christ is about faith and not figures. However, figures do shed some light on how we are living out our faith. There are many places in the Gospel where Jesus makes the connection between one's spiritual health and their relationship with monetary wealth. Generosity is a gift of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5.22). By reporting the giving, we shed light on the practicalities of supporting ministry and mission and these numbers remind us of our responsibility in generously giving to the spread of God's kingdom. The same is true with attendance. We have to be present to receive the Sacraments. Our priorities are best demonstrated by our bodies. If we want to see what matters the most to a person - we look at where their spend and where they stand.

Give by Text -
336-697-6543
|
|
This is amazing. I never have cash or a check, but I always have my phone. You can now give to the work of St Timothy's just by texting. Here's how it works:
1. Text an amount to
336-697-6543
2. You will be sent a link to set up your debit/credit card (take a few seconds)
3. Once complete, your transaction will go through and you number will always be associated with the card.
Plus, you can text "Funds" to see a specific fund. If you want to sponsor a lamp, you can text "25 st timothys" and it will go the St Timothy's Lamp, etc. If the fund isn't recognized, you'll get a list of all the funds and you text back the number of the fund you wish to give to
PS: This is not connected to your phone bill. It it connected to a card of your choice.
