MONDAY - FRIDAY

MONDAY, MARCH 18

Join TBZ’s Abortion Access Action Group for an in-person screening and follow-up discussion of PRECONCEIVED, a powerful new documentary about ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ – the ground game of the anti-abortion movement trying to undermine our reproductive health and rights in Massachusetts and around the US!  Preconceived tells the stories of two women who, while navigating unplanned pregnancies, inadvertently find themselves at facilities discouraging them from abortions. Click here for a trailer. Please RSVP to AAAG@TBZBrookline.org and you’ll reach Fran, Sara, Bobbi, & Julia!

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20

Email Rochelle to be included in the Eat, Pray and Learn list.

This is an affinity group for people who want to foreground bringing an immediate end to the current violence in Gaza and are committed to ending the ongoing structural violence Palestinians have suffered for decades. This is not the Israel group that Rav Claudia is assembling, nor is it a space for facilitated dialogue across differences, both of which are forthcoming. This is a lay-led group for TBZ members who believe that neither Jews nor Palestinians will be free of the curse of political violence until all who live between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea share equality, justice, and freedom. This first meeting will be an opportunity to find one another within the TBZ community and consider what we could learn about and do in the future.

Register here. For more information contact Leah Cohen or Rosalind Joffe.

The team: Deborah Kalin, Hasia Diner, Martha Gray, Liz Aeschilmann

THURSDAY, MARCH 21

9:30am-2:20pm Reading the Megillah After October 7th: Ta’anit Esther with Hadar (Co-sponsored by TBZ) (online: Register)

Before the joy of Purim, Ta'anit Esther is an opportunity to reflect on some of the holiday’s more serious themes. What can the Megillah teach us about understanding the aftermath of October 7th and holding together both realities of violence against Jews and violence by Jews? In this spirit, we’re cosponsoring a day of online learning and prayer at “Reading the Megillah After October 7th: Ta’anit Esther with Hadar.”

FRIDAY, MARCH 22

SATURDAY, MARCH 23

Please join us during Kiddush for a discussion about our Hesed Community at TBZ. Learn about the roots of this ancient mitzvah and how we endeavor to build a community filled with acts of loving-kindness. In the words of Rabbi Jonah of Girona, 13th century Spanish rabbi, “one of the most crucial and important things a person is called to do in life is exert himself to the full depths of his very soul on behalf of another person.”

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS

Got a Minute? There are still 134 hostages in Gaza; Elderly men and women, fathers, young women, disabled, and chronically ill. Every second that passes could be their last. They must be released immediately. Take a minute of your day and make a call and save their lives.

We, at TBZ, want to commit to 5 calls a day. Can you join us? Sign up to let us know you will be making the call. For more information about who to call, what to say go to 1 minute a Day.  Make a call!

Seder Matching:

No one should be alone for Pesach and at TBZ we take the mitzvah (commandment) of opening our doors seriously. For that reason, we have created a seder matching program. If you are able to host or would like to be hosted, please fill out this form by Tuesday, April 9. Rachel Goodman will follow up with your seder match.

Join TBZ Member Pam Greenberg for a more in-depth exploration of Psalms, based on her experiences in writing and publishing a translation of the Book of Psalms. This Kiddush talk will explore issues we encounter in talking to God. Participants will have the option of continuing in the 2-session workshop.

(co-sponsored by TBZ) Join us for breakfast with Brookline’s Select Board and School Committee candidates, including a moderated discussion of issues impacting the Jewish community.
