This Week at The Studio

Wanda Eichler, Graywood Designs

We are thinking two color knitting this week and a lot of magical knitting words come to mind. Words like Fair Isle, stripes, intarsia, and brioche.

My two color, flat knit brioche swatch (not blocked, some mistakes) is pictured above. It's knit with a sold color that is HiKoo Simplicity, color 133 Buillion. The second yarn, a multi, is Edition 3, color 2296 English Garden. Edition 3 is part of the Zauberball approach to color with long gradiants that twine through the knitting.

Brioche stitch is a form of a slipped stitch ribbing that is squishy and soft. I use the YouTube videos from unapologetic knitter to get my brain thinking brioche. Here's the video for Flat Two Color Brioche.

We have a lovely brioche kit that makes a scarf or a cowl -- Channeled Colors Brioche Loop or Scarf.

Brown Sheep's Synchrony color ST200R Birthday Bash changes from yellow to green to salmon to periwinkle. Synchrony, a DK weight yarn, is a blend of 60% cotton and 40% wool, so it is a great midseason yarn. Combine it with HiKoo Sueno solids for stripes that zing. Crocheters, granny squares would be great with Birthday Bash as a starting point for colors.

The Winter Roses KAL uses Fair Isle two color knitting. We carry the yarn you'll use -- HiKoo Simplinatural. Order soon so you'll be ready to cast on in November. We are proud to be one of the Online Retailers that's supplying this KAL.

Zauber Perlen gives you 7 mini balls in coordinated colorways. It's perfect for planning wide stripes for a shawl or scarf.

I spotted an American Kestrel in our snag ash tree this week. We keep several dead trees (we call them snags) on our property so we can see birds easily. No leaves, more birds. Kestrels are small falcons and have those big, doe eyes that are typical of falcons. They are a beautiful bird.

Cranberries! I bought the first two bags of cranberries this week and promptly cooked a pot of plain cranberry sauce. I use one package of Ocean Spray cranberries, one cup of water, and about 3/4 cup of white sugar. Cook on medium high until the berries pop. Remove from heat and let cool in the pan. The sauce will gel. I store it in a wide mouth quart jar.

My morning smoothie gets a good dollop of cranberry sauce in it along with yogurt and kefir. I top that off with sprinkles of granola. Mmmmm. As much as I love the taste of cranberries, sometimes I think it is that deep ruby red color of the cooked sauce that catches me the most.

The holidays are coming! Be sure to put an AddiClick needle set on your wish list. Or just treat yourself and order one now!

Wishing you happy knitting,

Wanda
