Introducing Zelle

New to Trinity Expense reimbursements:  Zelle is a U.S.‑based digital payment network built into most major banks’ mobile apps. Its purpose is to let people send money directly from one bank account to another within minutes.

If you are submitting a reimbursement for something you purchased for church use, please consider this electronic option over paper checks. The system is secure and payment is made typically on Thursdays when Eliisa, Trinity's bookkeeper, is in. Trinity simply needs your email address to initiate payment. Please talk to Noel Bellesheim or Eliisa Antel if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Noel Bellesheim

House of Harrison is a local foundation with a mission to restore dignity by providing clothing to individuals in need. They believe providing essential clothing offers comfort, confidence and hope for a new beginning.

They have recently been asked by the Newtown School system to help supply clothing to school children in need in our schools. Please consider donating clean, gently worn children's clothing. You will find a box with the House of Harrison's logo on it by the elevator for your donations.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Thank you for helping keep Trinity beautiful! 🍁💪

It’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer.

The Trinity Choir is changing things up this Sunday. Unlike the more reflective, contemplative anthems we typically sing, we’ll be down by the piano for this week’s Offertory anthem sharing a bright arrangement of the traditional spiritual, “It’s Me, O Lord (Standin’ in the Need of Prayer)”. Its catchy tune and driving rhythm will have you tapping your toes, so it’s interesting to take a moment to remember where this song originated.

First published in 1916 in National Jubilee Melodies, “Standin’ in the Need of Prayer” was included later in the The Book of American Negro Spirituals (1925), a collection of spirituals compiled by civil rights leader James Weldon Johnson and his brother J. Rosamond Johnson in order to preserve the important tradition of these songs that were passed down orally. These songs are rich in emotion and prayerful hope, and what I love about “Standin’..” is its sense of a very personal relationship with God. The text, “not my bother, not my sister, but its me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer”, is an honest moment of humility before God, one that acknowledges that we need forgiveness and grace as individuals.

Spirituals are typically easily memorable and singable, which is how they were able to be passed down by tradition. Thankfully, today we have these incredible songs published and even freshly arranged by modern composers, such as this week’s anthem, to keep these important songs in our houses of worship.

As this song will inevitably bring you joy this Sunday, remember the deep longing for freedom from which it came.

In Christ,

Jennifer

Last week, we celebrated All Saints Day and remembered the many people who have shared God’s love with the world. We talked about how we are all part of the communion of saints, a community of faith that stretches across generations. The children had lots of fun making their own paper saint dolls.

Looking ahead to the next few weeks, we’ll be exploring a new part of the Old Testament; the stories of God’s prophets. Prophets were called by God to share messages with God’s people, especially during difficult times filled with fear, oppression, or confusion. They were truth-tellers who reminded people of God’s ways and helped guide them back when they lost their way.

This week in Church School, we’ll begin with the story of Isaiah’s call. We’ll play a game of Telephone to discover what can happen to a message as it gets passed from person to person and talk about what it means to be a prophet and share God’s message with others. We’ll also have some fun with an oil and water science experiment. We will watch the two liquids separate and see how food coloring moves through them, and talk about what it means to be set apart and to live in a way that reflects God’s love.

Should you wish to make a donation to LL, please mail a check to First Congregational Church of Ridgefield (FCC), 103 Main Street, Ridgefield, Ct 06877. The memo line should read LLGD or click here.
