Mission & Outreach
Sharon Farrell grew up in Newtown one of 12 children, with a large extended family.
After meeting her wife Maegan they moved to Newtown and have lived here for nearly 30 years.
In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities including gardening, kayaking, walking their dog and hiking.
Since retiring she has enjoyed volunteering in town.
Brought up in the Catholic Church, her search for a new place to worship brought her to Trinity. She quickly felt a sense of community and found a spiritual home. Sharon was formally received into the church almost 2 yrs ago.
Since joining Trinity she has been involved in the Little Pantry, Dorothy Day, Laundry Love and on both the Mission and Outreach and Stewardship committees.

Properties
Jim Funk lives in Newtown with his wife, Sandra, where they have resided for the past two and a half years. Jim works full time as General Manager of a family-owned construction equipment business in Orange, while Sandra is Senior Vice President of Diversified Investments at the Ashforth Company in Stamford. They enjoy traveling, especially to visit their children—a 26-year-old daughter who is a nurse in Chicago and a 23-year-old son living in Fort Myers, Florida. At Trinity of Newtown, Jim has proudly served on the Property Committee and helped guide the recent roof installation, and previously at Trinity of Southport he held numerous leadership roles, including rebuilding their nursery school after Hurricane Sandy, chairing their Property Committee, serving multiple Vestry terms, acting as Senior Warden, and participating on rector search committees. On weekends, Jim can often be found helping Sandra in her gardens and tending to their chickens and bees.

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.
Psalm 63:7-8
The deep cold of winter has certainly made itself known these past weeks, even keeping us from gathering and worshiping together in the sanctuary last Sunday. These dark, icy days can feel long, lonely, and heavy, but they also invite us to be more aware of God’s steady presence. The psalmist doesn’t say, ‘I hide in the shadow of your wings’, he says ‘I SING in the shadow of your wings’! Even while we are digging deep to find joy in frustrating or gloomy times, we still SING, because singing is one of the most powerful ways that we can offer our praise and thanksgiving. It’s also just really good for our minds and bodies too. Paul encourages us to “Rejoice in the Lord always”, not because everything is easy, but because God is faithful in every season. Winter will eventually loosen its grip, and in the meantime our worship and shared life together will remind us that warmth, light, and joy are always abundant in the community that we call Trinity.
Our Trinity choir is back in rehearsal this evening, and - can you believe it?- we’ll start learning some music for Lent! Come and join us for a time of fun and music in the choir room!
In Christ,
Jennifer

In Church School we will begin to learn about the liturgical year and the different seasons of the church. We will use Godly Play materials to help us visualize how many weeks there are in each season. I will be challenging children to notice what color they may see in church this Sunday and we will discuss their observations next week. This will help us move into the next few weeks when we discover what sacraments are in our faith tradition.
One of the many gifts in The Episcopal Church is our ability to ask lots of questions; and knowing there may be many ways of interpreting the same thing. Here at Trinity, we cultivate a space for children to bring their curiosity and questions with them to church. Sometimes a child has a perspective that we often don’t think about as adults. Their questions are opportunities for us to all learn together. And in the coming months, it is my hope that in church school and within our time together at Trinity, we can ask questions about what it means to worship in our church and how it connects to our lives in the world.
Looking ahead, join us in the Glover room after the church service on February 8th to decorate cards for Valentines for Troops. During this time of year, our troops love receiving homemade cards of appreciation. Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate!
