Warden

Patrick Corrigan, his wife, Julia, and their daughter, Fiona, moved to Woodbury in August 2020 from New York City and started attending Trinity via the webcast soon thereafter. Patrick is the son and grandson of Episcopal clergy and figuratively grew up in the Church. His father was Rector of Church of Our Saviour in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he was an active participant throughout his childhood. As an adult, Patrick has been an active member of several churches and he served as the Chair of Trinity's Property Commission from 2022 to 2025. Patrick is an architect specializing in residential architecture. His firm--Cameron & Corrigan Architects--has offices in Bedford, New York and Litchfield, Connecticut.

Mission & Outreach

Sharon Farrell grew up in Newtown one of 12 children, with a large extended family.

After meeting her wife Maegan they moved to Newtown and have lived here for nearly 30 years.

In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities including gardening, kayaking, walking their dog and hiking.

Since retiring she has enjoyed volunteering in town.

Brought up in the Catholic Church, her search for a new place to worship brought her to Trinity. She quickly felt a sense of community and found a spiritual home. Sharon was formally received into the church almost 2 yrs ago.

Since joining Trinity she has been involved in the Little Pantry, Dorothy Day, Laundry Love and on both the Mission and Outreach and Stewardship committees.

Properties

Jim Funk lives in Newtown with his wife, Sandra, where they have resided for the past two and a half years. Jim works full time as General Manager of a family-owned construction equipment business in Orange, while Sandra is Senior Vice President of Diversified Investments at the Ashforth Company in Stamford. They enjoy traveling, especially to visit their children—a 26-year-old daughter who is a nurse in Chicago and a 23-year-old son living in Fort Myers, Florida. At Trinity of Newtown, Jim has proudly served on the Property Committee and helped guide the recent roof installation, and previously at Trinity of Southport he held numerous leadership roles, including rebuilding their nursery school after Hurricane Sandy, chairing their Property Committee, serving multiple Vestry terms, acting as Senior Warden, and participating on rector search committees. On weekends, Jim can often be found helping Sandra in her gardens and tending to their chickens and bees.

Seeing the need beyond our walls

Thou art my life; if thou but turn away my life’s a thousand deaths. Thou art my way; without thee, Lord, I travel not, but farther stray. Thou art my way, Lord, thou art my way. My light thou art; without thy glorious sight mine eyes are darkened, are darkened with night. Thou art my way, my life, my light. Disclose thy sunbeams, close thy wings and stay; Ah! See how I am blind, and dead, and stray. O love divine, thou art my light, my life, my way. Lord, thou art my way. Amen.

Our Trinity Choir’s anthem this Sunday is based on the poem Why Dost Thou Shade Thy Lovely Face? by Francis Quarles (1592-1644) and is a striking prayer for God’s guidance. Quarles was known for poetry that poignantly expressed the struggle between faith and doubt, with a desperate longing for God’s help. Quarles was writing during a time of political and religious strife in England. In fact, he faced persecution himself for being a committed Royalist: His home was ransacked, his finances destroyed, and his later years were marked by intense hardship. His critics harshly referred to him as “he that makes God speak so big in’s poetry”, as his religious texts were not welcome in the time of division following the Protestant Reformation. This instability, loss and searching for hope is reflected in the poetry of our Offertory anthem Thou Art My Life, set to music by Van Denman Thompson in 1951. Thompson’s rendering of this literary piece is also set as a hymn in numerous hymnals.

It will be frigid outside on Sunday, and I hope you will come and find warmth and prayerful music in the sanctuary as we worship together.

And make sure you mark your calendars for February 15th when we will worship in a truly unique and joyful way with a “Jazz Sunday”! More to come…..

In Christ,

Jennifer

Last week we had fun in church school learning more about how different seasons within our Church year are connected. We discussed what colors we may see associated with each season, and how this season of Epiphany helps connect Christmas to Easter. We created a web of connecting twine with one another and discovered the joy of working together to untangle the twine.

Looking ahead, next week we will dive into understanding more about what sacraments may be in our church. In The Episcopal Church we have the opportunity to partake in 7 sacraments, the two most common ones are Baptism and Holy Communion, which we celebrate this Sunday. We look forward to helping our children understand better why these rites matter. There might even be a fun song to learn and dance along to.

Lastly during our annual meeting, join us in the Glover room on February 8th to decorate cards for Valentines for Troops. During this time of year, our troops love receiving homemade cards of appreciation. Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate!
