Nativity Pageant, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Worship!

Beloved of Trinity Church,

I look forward to sharing the joy of this season of Incarnation with you this Christmas! It

is a gift to serve God with you, and I rejoice in our shared ministries here in Newtown.

One of my favorite carols, since I was a child, is “I Wonder as I Wander.” A traditional

Appalachian folk carol, it has a haunting, lyrical simplicity. The words and lilting melody

touch deep places in our hearts.

In this spirit of memory and profound longing for God, I pray that each of us finds the

presence of God this Christmas season.

“I wonder as I wander, out under the sky,

How Jesus the Savior did come for to die

For poor ordinary people like you and like I;

I wonder as I wander out under the sky.”

I am so honored to walk with you in faith, following Jesus in ministry and discipleship.

Jesus the Christ, who comes to us now as a child, full of vulnerability and power.

“When Mary bore Jesus, ‘twas in a cow’s stall,

With wise men and animals and shepherds and all,

But high from the heavens a star’s light did fall,

And the promise of ages it then did recall.”

I pray each of us finds moments of wonder and awe, marveling at the surprising ways

the hope and promise of God is born anew in our lives, in the life of our world.

I will see you this coming Sunday, December 21 st , for our Pageant at 9:30 AM. Our

Christmas Eve service begins at 4:30 with special music, the liturgy beginning at 5:00

PM. Christmas morning, we will gather at 10:00 AM.

May God bless you richly,

Rev. Andrea Castner Wyatt, Rector

MISSION & OUTREACH

The Newtown Fund, Inc. and Hurricane Relief Contribution

Each year, Mission & Outreach nominates an organization to receive the collection plate from all Christmas services. This year, we have chosen the Newtown Fund. The Newtown Fund acts as a safety net and support to Newtown residents by paying for many expenses, including fuel assistance.

We also will contribute to those in need from Hurricane Melissa damage. Our Hurricane relief donation is distributed via Episcopal Relief and Development. support/episcopalrelief.org

There will be an envelope in the pews or you can donate online via Vanco.

Thank you all for your generosity all year for our neighbors in need.

Look at Us!

We've had so many donations from the community that we've added a donation box outside by the Pantry. This helps us sort the donated items from what the pantry stockers put into the pantry. Thank you Newtown!!

May the joy of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, the worship of the wisemen and the peace of the Christ child be yours this Christmas.

- from Christmas Blessing

One of my favorite Advent traditions at Trinity is coming up this Sunday: the pageant! The beauty and joy of our Church School kiddos creating the scene of the Nativity is always such a highlight of the season, and our Trinity Choir loves being the chorus of angels leading everyone in the beloved carols as the story of Christ’s birth is told. From the joyous pageant to the warm contemporary offertory anthem Christmas Blessing, your hearts will be filled and blessed this Sunday.

Our choir is down to the final rehearsal for Christmas Eve, and it promises to be a beautiful evening. The musical prelude begins at 4:30pm, which is a great reason to come early and snag a good seat. We’ll have music presented by our choir, soloists, harp, flute, organ, and brass, and combined with the reverence of our sacred and beautiful sanctuary, the sounds of Christmas at Trinity will be a truly blessed offering for the community.

I want to thank the Trinity choir for their tireless work and preparation this season. Between Evensong and Christmas Eve preparations, they have demonstrated such dedication and hearts for ministry that shine through their singing. I hope that you will take moment to thank our musicians when you see them.

May your week be filled with the peace, love, hope, and joy of Advent.

Jennifer

As we enter the second half of Advent, we turn our attention towards joy and love. Last week in Church School the kids explored what joy can look like in their life, and how being kind helps others feel joy too! We had fun sharing how winter snowy mornings feel like joy.

This Sunday marks another joyful moment at Trinity as we celebrate our beloved Christmas Pageant. Our children will help us remember God’s wonderful gift of love to the world through baby Jesus in the manger. I am deeply thankful to everyone who helped make this special day possible; from parents and cue helpers, and to those working behind the scenes. A special thank-you to Jennifer Sisco for teaching children the songs and providing such beautiful music.

May the wonder, and laughter of our children remind us of all of the true meaning of Christmas as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christ’s birth together.

A gentle reminder there will be no Church School on December 28th  as we take time to celebrate Christmas and visit loved ones.

A Message from Trinity’s Stephen Ministry—

     . . . at  Holiday Times .  .  .

The holiday season is upon us once again. It’s important to remember that these times can be tender times for many of our loved ones, and for many of us as well.   They can be bittersweet times—happy memories intertwined with a sense of loss of family, friends, relationships—good times past that are no more.  And our feelings of distress get compounded by current troubling world events over which we have no control.

So please remember— Trinity’s Stephen Ministers are here to help.   They do so anonymously—and they do so lovingly.  And they are available anytime in the next weeks and the weeks beyond into the new year.

There are times of struggle and burden in everyone’s life—experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, the empty nest, or perhaps just the feeling of being alone.  At such times, we long to be in touch with someone who cares, but it may be difficult for us to reach out and ask for help.

Trinity’s Stephen Ministers are here for you now as Care-Givers, offering help, hope and healing.  If you—or someone you know—is in need, contact Reverend Andrea or any of the folks listed below.  They can explain in further detail how the Stephen Ministry care process works.  And remember, confidentiality is assured: Care-Receivers are never identified by name, not even among the other members of the Stephen Ministry Team.
