GOING FORWARD FROM THE PANDEMIC

This week, our Partnering with Schools and Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses action teams met to continue their progress on developing strategies and recommendations for libraries to implement during the pandemic.
FACES ON THE FRONT LINE
This week, our "Faces on the Front Line" feature on our coronavirus resource page highlights the great work of staff members from Birmingham Public Library, Toronto Public Library, Anne Arundel County Public Library, The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Jefferson County Public Library, El Paso Public Library and Cleveland Public Library.

We encourage you to submit any images or stories from your team's work on the front line of COVID-19 to media@urbanlibraries.org .

Finding Success with Virtual Summer Learning

With 5,100 challenges completed, and 2,000 books read in 285,000 minutes from 975 readers, OPPL’s first-ever virtual summer reading program is a hit! Library staff members have relished the opportunity to ride bikes and drive through town delivering prize packs to the winners.
Launching Career Labs in Saint Paul

In an effort to help residents gain employment, build career skills and navigate career transitions, Saint Paul Public Library partnered with Ramsey County Workforce Solutions to launch new Career Labs at several library locations. Community members can access online job search resources, career planning and information on employer hiring all from socially distanced computer stations.
Greensboro Goes Fine Free
Greensboro Public Library

Greensboro Public Library is the latest public library to make the bold decision to waive overdue fines and late fees for patrons during the pandemic. Library Director Brigitte Blanton said, “Our goal is to remove unnecessary barriers that impact our most vulnerable customers.” ULC's Fine Free Map now has more than 200 North American public libraries listed — including both ULC members and non-members.
