PROPOSED ULC EXECUTIVE BOARD SLATE
The ULC Executive Board has proposed a slate of board members for 2020-2021. ULC members will be asked to vote on the slate on Thursday, June 18 during the virtual ULC Annual Member Meeting.
GOING FORWARD FROM THE PANDEMIC
ULC's Going Forward from the Pandemic initiative is proceeding full-steam ahead, with the finalizing of Action Teams and announcement on next steps coming soon. This initiative will leverage the skills and ingenuity of our membership as we navigate the unprecedented impact of the coronavirus outbreak on our library community.

Library Launches #LookForwardMadison Campaign
Madison Public Library

In an effort to encourage inclusivity, positivity and resilience in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, Madison Public Library partnered with the Madison Arts Commission to design a new website where residents can submit stories of positive happenings in the community. "The idea is to just highlight the great things that people are doing in our community," said Tana Elias, digital services and marketing manager.
Providing Remote Library Access to Homeless Individuals
LA County Library

Through a partnership with the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, LA County Library is working to bring remote library access to individuals experiencing homelessness during the coronavirus outbreak. Librarians have created 7,000 activity kits, including digital library card IDs and PIN numbers, for distribution to local organizations serving homeless populations, as well as other vulnerable individuals.
Offering Free COVID-19 Testing to Those in Need
Kansas City Public Library

Kansas City Public Library recently partnered with Swope Health to expand COVID-19 testing at two locations — the library's Trails West Branch and the Southeast Branch. At two events earlier this month, the team was able to test 223 individuals for the coronavirus free of charge.
REIMAGINING LIBRARY SPACES TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL COMMUNITY SERVICES

COVID-19 RESEARCH HUB
Check out the new site for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, OCLC and Battelle public-private COVID-19 research partnership that will inform safe handling of library and museum collections. In an update provided today, it was noted that five items were selected for the first round of material testing. The tests will determine the length of time the COVID-19 virus may live on the surface of the materials and the results of this first round are expected to be released in mid-June.

The items include:
  • hardcover book, made of buckram cloth
  • softcover book cover
  • pages inside of book
  • plastic protective cover
  • DVD case
