Join ULC and peer library leaders in the birthplace of Rock and Roll ­— Cleveland, Ohio — for a field trip that will get you ready to rock a post-COVID world. Our in-person Lessons from the Field event June 8-10 is one-part big ideas, one-part constructive collaboration and a big dose of experiential learning that you can apply immediately at your library.

Attendees will hear from Cleveland Public Library Executive Director and CEO Felton Thomas, Jr. on the innovative ways CPL has cultivated community partnerships to serve their community during the pandemic.
“Cleveland Public Library could not serve our community without partnerships,” states Thomas, Jr. “As The People’s University, strategic partnerships are key to reaching people where and when they need us most. We have worked to nurture our partnerships for years, even decades in some cases. The COVID-19 pandemic is a good example of how partnerships enabled us to pivot how we served our community while keeping patrons and staff as safe as possible. Now, we must think about how we continue to foster and build partnerships to increase connection and impact for what comes next.”
Attendees will engage in interactive learning sessions to discover how we reinvigorate the partnerships we have and connect in meaningful ways with new community partners to prepare for the future. Councilmember Jawando
It's Vital: Storytime with Councilmember Jawando
Montgomery County Public Libraries

When the Montgomery County government announced the temporary closure of public libraries due to COVID-19, Councilmember Will Jawando stepped up in partnership with Montgomery County Public Libraries to provide virtual storytimes for children. To get this program started, MCPL provided promotional materials and social media graphics while Councilmember Jawando created a cozy space in his office to read to children and families.

Wichita Covid Story
Telling Your Covid Story in Wichita
Wichita Public Library

With the help of American Rescue Plan Act funds from Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Wichita Public Library is encouraging patrons to document firsthand accounts of life during the pandemic. So far, WPL has collected 64 stories from individuals, three stories from businesses and business owners and one oral history. Through WPL’s website, community members have already uploaded various visual pieces featuring first-person experiences, a digital journal covering the first three months of the pandemic, poetry, a podcast and a significant number of photographs showing Wichita during the pandemic.

Addressing Health Care Gaps with New Virtual Care Clinic
Richland Library

Through a partnership with Eau Claire Cooperative Health Center, Richland Library launched a Virtual Care Clinic last month to address health care gaps and provide residents with consistent preventative care. Patients can speak directly with a licensed provider and receive a digital examination right at the library’s main location. The clinic specializes in helping patients ages 18-64 manage chronic conditions and access behavioral health counseling.
Celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Santa Clara County Library District

In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Santa Clara County Library District will recognize the contributions and influences of AAPI individuals to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. These celebrations include a month-long event series of Tai Chi, film screenings, speaker series and book discussions.
Offering Dynamic Programs for Mental Health Week
Ottawa Public Library

During Mental Health Week in Canada, Ottawa Public Library is offering patrons access to free online workshops, meditation and mindfulness events to help them cope with the stress of life. Supporting the theme of empathy, programming includes opportunities to ask questions and interact with presenters around this important topic.
Special Booklist for Mother's Day
Boston Public Library

In honor of the women who have shaped and lifted us up, Boston Public Library curated a special Mother’s Day Booklist featuring both fiction and nonfiction selections. This booklist includes 10 of the most memorable moms in literature from different periods, countries, socioeconomic classes and ethnic groups — all united by their determination to be the best moms to their children.
