APPLY TODAY TO JOIN ULC'S NEW SUMMER LEARNING COHORT
|
|
The application period is now open for Building Equity: Amplify Summer Learning, a new ULC initiative to support engaging learning opportunities for middle school youth in the summertime who have historically been excluded from STEM opportunities (e.g., based on race, income, gender, ability). All applications are due by Friday, November 12 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Please note that cohort members will receive a small stipend to help offset material costs.
Funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and with the support of our partners, the National Summer Learning Association and the National Recreation and Park Association, ULC and its strategic partners will work with a learning cohort of up to 20-25 public libraries to design and implement quality STEM summer programming. All ULC members are encouraged to apply!

Cambridge Goes Fine Free
Cambridge Public Library
Cambridge Public Library is one of the latest ULC member library systems to join the Fine Free movement by eliminating fines for everyone. The library noted, “research has shown that low-income families identify fines and fees as a barrier and deterrent to library use, and that fines and fees disproportionately impact low-income families and neighborhoods. The elimination of overdue fines ensures equitable access to library services for everyone in our community.”

Featuring Local Musicians on New Streaming Platform
Kent District Library
Kent District Library is launching KDL Vibes, a free streaming platform where local West Michigan musicians can submit tracks from their albums to be featured. “I think one of the neat things about this platform is that there are so many up-and-coming artists and even established artists within the scene here who many of our patrons may never have heard of,” said David Specht, digital marketing strategist for KDL.
