Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel) Mark Nordstrom currently serves as the Force Management Officer for the Army Chief of Chaplains, providing strategic analysis of force design for the entire Army Chaplaincy and managing complex organizational change. His most recent past assignment was as the Operations Officer for the Command Chaplain, United States Army Europe and 7th Army. Previous to that he was the Brigade Chaplain for the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3d Infantry Division.
Chaplain Nordstrom is an Anglican Priest resident in the Deanery for the Chaplaincy, Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) and is a voluntary clergy member of The Falls Church Anglican, Falls Church, VA. He has been in ordained ministry since 1987 and is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas, where he earned a Master of Theology degree in Semitics and Old Testament Theology. He also holds a degree in Aviation Science and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Studies.
Chaplain Nordstrom has been married to the former Christine Patrizio since 1979 and they live in Falls Church, VA. They have three married children, Philip, serving as a Medical Sergeant with in the U.S. Army Special Forces, Angela, a mother and married to a seminarian, and Joel, an Industrial Engineer who also serves as a Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army Engineers, South Carolina Army National Guard.
He served for six years as a Military Policeman, six years in two civilian parishes and then received a direct commission as a Chaplain 1990. His military education includes the Basic Law Enforcement Course from the Military Police School, Chaplain Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School; the Command and General Staff College; Force Management Course, Air Assault Course and the Infantry Light Leader Course.
As a Chaplain he has had assignments with light infantry battalions, a field artillery battalion and a mechanized infantry brigade. Additional assignments include service as an Observer Controller at the Combat Maneuver Training Center, Hohenfels, Germany, and in the Combat Developments Directorate of the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School, Ft. Jackson, SC.
Chaplain Nordstrom has served in Joint Relief Operations for Hurricane Iniki; as a Brigade Chaplain in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the initial entry forces; and a second tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom, also as a Brigade Chaplain.
Chaplain Nordstrom's awards and decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation, the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, the Oversees Service Ribbon with numeral four, the Hawaii National Guard Medal For Merit, the Combat Action Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
