"Madam President"
Airing Monday, January 18, 2021
We are excited to announce that Madam President, a new episode of America's Hidden Stories, will air on the Smithsonian Network, 8:00pm EST on Monday, January 18th, 2021.
Talk about Edith Wilson, not only as First Lady, but as first woman president, is a topic of debates on a regular basis, especially now. This program reexamines the role Edith played during President Wilson's stroke and recovery. Filming took place on site at the Wilson House last year and Wilson House staff, as well as Advisory Council member and author Dr. John Milton Cooper, Jr., were interviewed extensively.
We will be watching it for the first time along with you on January 18th!

Tuesday Speaker Series
The Arc of Suffrage
Tuesday, January 26, 2021, 12pm
The day before he was sworn in as president in 1913, Woodrow Wilson was met by a modern suffrage parade organized by young Quaker Alice Paul. Women’s suffrage had gone outside to the streets with the result that Wilson was the first president to face the Votes for Women movement day in, day out, for years. Jamie Stiehm and Lucy Lang discuss the arc of the modern 20th century suffrage movement. Join us as the Tuesday Speaker Series continues.

This event is part of the Wilson House Tuesday Speaker Series
On the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, notable historians, curators, and leaders explore the social movements of the early 20th Century and their relevance today. Talks explore women's suffrage, activism and protest, racial inequity, and the consequences and legacy of Woodrow Wilson’s presidency.
The Wilson House Tuesday Speaker Series is brought to you through generous donations from:
Cary C. Fuller, Nancy Bliss, Edward F. Gerber and Christopher W. Keller.

Fall Scholar Traci Holmer spent part of her semester at Wilson House creating a mini exhibition Wilson's Legacy Through Stamps. Researching stamps between 1919 and 2020, she examined the color, symbols, and historical context of each stamp to evaluate how Wilson is remembered in history. This stamp celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 19th amendment. On the left are suffragists protesting for women's rights, and the right is a woman voting on a machine.
