Ganon Aleph is off to a Great Start!
The children of Ganon Aleph are having a wonderful time as they make new friends, and learn their new routines.  We had a great time learning all about Rosh HaShanah.  In class, we made honey pots, drip mats and our own shofars!  We also learned all about bees.  Bees are insects with compound eyes.  The children had a great time looking through special viewfinders that allowed them to see things the way bees do.  We are very excited for all the new experiences that await us this year!  Shana Tova!
Lower School

News From Grade 1!
The beginning of school has been full of alphabet exploration in Class 1D!  The students have been busy creating pictures out of letters and playing alphabet games on the Smart Board.  The class participated in different alphabet centers including sandpaper letters, forming letters and words using pipe cleaners and play dough, and even writing letters in shaving cream!  Through all of these activities, we are reviewing and reinforcing our letter sounds and correct handwriting formation.

In celebration of Dot Day coming up on September 15th, 1D became Celebri-dots when challenged to make their mark! After reading the book The Dot by  Peter H. Reynolds , the students went to the Learning Commons to create their unique coloring creations. Then, with the use of iPads and the Quiver app, made their masterpieces come to life in extraordinary 3D augmented reality.

News From Grade 5!
Rabbi Furst's 5A and 5C classes are beginning to understand the intricacies of how the slavery of our ancestors in Egypt started. The students are asking good, insightful questions and are eagerly learning as the details and topics of Sefer Shemot are taught. Additionally, careful attention is being paid to the tremendous importance of the actual Torah text and understanding how the written words provide a wealth of information. The students are also enjoying the transition from Sefer Yehoshua to Sefer  Shoftim as they move forward in their Navi studies. They are being introduced to such concepts as Am  Yisrael being led by various judges, rather than by one central leader. Of course, a considerable portion  of class time is also spent on reviewing the vital components of the Chagim that we are currently  celebrating. 5A and 5C wish a Shana Tova to all!
Middle School
Pre-Rosh Hashana Middle School Tisch
Pre-Rosh Hashana Middle School Tisch
Pre-Rosh Hashanah Tisch
On Thursday, September 6th, our Middle School students had the opportunity to join an optional Pre-Rosh Hashanah Tisch during recess, and over 120 students joined to prepare themselves spiritually for Yom Hadin. Students heard inspirational stories from Rabbi Menchel about the capability of song and the importance of fulfilling one's resolutions  without any delay. The students enjoyed the singing as well as donut treats. Special thanks to Mr. Steiner for leading the music on his guitar. It was a great way to prepare and enter into the Yamim Noraim!
Rabbi Paysach Krohn Addresses
Middle School Students on
Tzom Gedaliah

On Wednesday, September 12th, the Yavneh Middle School students heard from the world renowned Maggid, Rabbi Krohn. Rabbi Krohn's speech, "Bringing out the Best in Ourselves," inspired our students to think about how they can roar back at the lion of the Yamim Noraim, and how it starts with taking the first step like Nati did. The students learned about practical ways to bring Teshuva, Tefillah and Tzedaka into their lives and make this year, תשע׳ט to be תהא שנת עשה טוב, a year of doing good.
Development News

This summer, we installed Yavneh's donor wall in the Atrium, recognizing those who contributed to Yavneh's Capital Campaign. Contributions to the Capital Campaign enabled Yavneh to modernize the building, add classroom space, strengthen security, and expand our science and technology resources. Thank you to all who participated for your generosity, dedication, and support.
As we welcome the start of a new year, we would also like to thank all of the parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Yavneh Academy who included Yavneh in their charitable giving last year. Donors like you enable Yavneh to continue providing our students with an unparalleled Jewish and secular education. Thank you from the members of the Board, the Administration, and, most importantly, the students of Yavneh Academy.  We are truly so very grateful.
