This Week at The Congregational Church
July 25, 2021
This Week's Message: "Cracks in the Church's Foundation?"
We need to challenge our preconceptions about size and health when it comes to church and ministry. Is the goal we need to meet statistical or is it scriptural? Are we better because we are bigger or because we are faithful? We, The Church, needs to return to our first love - serving Jesus in mission and ministry. Because we have listened - without any foundation of knowledge - to the pseudo-intellectuals babble about areas of study where they hold only baseless opinions - the church has been led to the edge of the abyss. The result of their ignorance and the foolishness of church membership has led to the closing of scores of churches and missionary enterprises. We now find ourselves in a spiritual and cultural war without the leadership or the spiritual weaponry to turn the tide of the conflict. The local church and the church around the world must rebuild on the solid rock.
SCRIPTURE LESSON: 1 Corinthians 3:10-23
Read by Deacon Karen Deutsch
GREETERS: Gil and Libby Regan

You will hear: "Falling In Love With Jesus", "Peace Like a River", "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", "We Have Come Into His House", "The Church's One Foundation", and "Old Time Religion".

Harriet Dawson will play the Memorial Chimes to begin and end our worship. and Kevin O'Connell will accompany Ben on the Keyboard and direct our music.

HOLY COMMUNION: OUR NEXT HOLY COMMUNION will take place on Sunday, August 1st.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE. There will be a Celebration of Life and time of remembrance for Rose Reitmyer on Saturday, August 14th at 11 a.m. The service will be held in the church sanctuary followed by a light luncheon in Fellowship Hall. Your attendance would be a blessing and appreciated by the family. If you plan to attend sign the sheet in the narthex or call the church office so we have a count for the luncheon.
July Mission Projects
THIS WILL BE THE LAST SUNDAY TO SUPPORT OUR JULY MISSION PROJECTS. The mission of Operation Shoebox is to show our troops deployed here at home and around the world that we care by sending packages, letters, and bulk items to them during their deployment. 100% of our donations to Operation Shoebox go to our troops. There are over 1,300 dedicated volunteers, including members of our congregation, who are assisting in this vital work. Your mission gifts during July will help Operation Shoebox and our Infant and Toddler Pantry. Thank you for your support.

(If we missed your birthday, please, let us know. We will add you to the list.)
Building Fund
GREAT NEWS! Our church has received a gift of stock to be used to pay down our indebtedness.
The stock has been sold and the proceeds applied to our mortgage. We are thrilled to announce that the balance on our loan is now approximately $75,000. The total building project and property purchases here on our campus amounts to around 2.7 million dollars. In less than fifteen years God has allowed us to carry out amazing mission efforts and build a wonderful church family together. OUR GOAL is to finish paying the remaining mortgage and to continue the Building Fund as a source for dealing with future major repairs and improvements (roof replacements, sewer hook-ups, etc). Your gifts toward paying down the remaining $75,000 would be a blessing. Consider a leaf on the "Tree of Life" or a monthly Building Fund contribution. Thank you to everyone who has given so generously and sacrificially. Special thanks to Tony Katsune for his generous gift in loving memory of his wife, Jane.  Also, for his love for this church and his faith in God's work in this place.
August Movie Night

MOVIE NIGHT is Friday, August 20th. The film is a lighthearted Disney Pixar story titled "UP". A retired balloon salesman, is part rascal, part dreamer who is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. He finds that sometimes life's biggest adventures aren't the ones you set out looking for.

Gift Cards
GIFT IDEA! The Mission Board and the Infant and Toddler Pantry (thanks to a grand idea from Janet Moe) are now selling gift cards. These can be used for birthdays, a memorial remembrance, Christmas, Easter or just a "Thinking of You" gift. The card states that a gift has been made to the Infant and Toddler Pantry in the name of the person being honored or remembered. This is a great way to help the children of the Pantry and a tool to teach our family members and grandchildren about the importance of giving. See Janet Moe after services to make you purchase of these attractive cards. Three cards are just $30 with all proceeds going to the Infant & Toddler Pantry.
Covid-19 Update
The latest rulings regarding public gatherings during the COVID crisis have been considered by our church and we are making a few changes. First, we will no longer be taking temperature checks as you enter. Masks are now recommended (not required) and you can use the type of mask you choose. Seating distances will remain the same, Hymnals and name tags will not be used, and we are asking you to use common courtesy in contact with others. It is our hope that if the current progress continues we can return to "normal" operation August 1st.
Pastoral Care
Contact Pastor Jim Keough on his cell 352-250-6160 or email: If you are ill or going to the hospital please let us know. We want to pray for you and be of service.
Important Notice: Hospitals and Rehab Centers are still limiting the visitation that can take place at their facilities. Clergy, including your pastor, are limited in their calling during the coronavirus crisis. Therefore, visitation will be limited to critical situations. Please be sure to check the "Prayer Request" section of our church website and pray for your church friends and their concerns. If you have someone you would like added to the list contact the pastor or the church office.

Two factors have begun to have an effect on our church giving. First of all the "seasonal residents" have now made their pilgrimage to the north country. This creates a drop off in giving each year. This year we have had this problem compounded by the COVID-19 closing of church facilities and programs. It was not as pronounced at first, however, the longer this situation continues the more people forget we must support the church for it to continue to provide ministry and service at the levels people expect. Your continued support of the Building Fund and the General Fund is "Essential". There will not be government funds available to bail us out. Your stepped up support during this time will be a blessing.

OUR DAILY BREAD daily devotional guides are available on the literature table in the narthex of the church. The books are printed in regular and large print editions. Feel free to take extra copies to give to friends and family.
THE WALK OF FAITH - We continue to place Brick Pavers in both the Veterans Area at the flag poles and around the beautiful fountain area. Make a gift to the Building Fund of $100 and have a brick placed in honor/memory of a loved one or a veteran. You can place a brick in the fountain area walk-way to celebrate an event, memorialize a family member, or simply place your name on a brick to show your support for our church. Mail your check with "Brick Paver" in the memo section to the church along with the information you would like on your brick. There are three lines with 15 characters per line available on each brick. Contact the church office for more information.
Thought for the Week

"The cinema has done more for my spiritual life than the church. My ideas of fame, success and beauty all originate from the big screen. Whereas Christian religion is retreating everywhere and losing more and more influence; film has filled the vacuum and supports us with myths and action-controlling images." - John Updike
Prayer Requests for July 25th, 2021
Prayer Request help needed! When a difficult time arises and we are in need of prayer it is easy to make a call or send a message asking for prayer. However, when God answers and the need is no longer pressing we forget to contact the Prayer Team with an update. Some requests therefore linger on the list long after the need has been satisfied. Since there are more than 250 people who look to the church for ministry in this way it would be most helpful if you would take a moment to send a note advising of the current status of your situation, friend, or loved one. Thank you for your help!  Together we are making a difference in the lives of people who need the comfort and help of prayer.
