Grandparents Day - Sun. Sept. 13th
Grandparent’s Day is a celebration of grandparents everywhere. And of all types of grandparents – including grandparents who are raising their grandchildren (if you can imagine doing that again!) These grandparents are special people indeed to take on the role of “parent” again in order to keep their families together. It’s challenging and hard work but also joyful and fulfilling – these grandparents wouldn’t have it any other way! If you are raising your grandchildren, or know anyone who is, then the Senior Center has a great program for you! GaP or Grandparents as Parents is a fun and supportive group of grandparents who socialize and learn together how to better navigate this new lifestyle. GaP is still meeting monthly during these COVID times with Zoom presentations, support groups and drive-thru events. For more information click here or contact the GaP Coordinator, Karen Boebinger at 891-4027 or Karen.Boebinger@talgov.com.

Need Medicare Guidance?
SHINE Program (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is federally funded and our services are offered through the Department of Elder Affairs and the local Area Agency on Aging. Year-round, a cadre of vetted and trained volunteer counselors assists clients in applying for Medicare and provide information to help them evaluate options for additional insurance. In addition, we also screen clients for eligibility for Medicaid and other financial assistance for medical and prescription drug costs and report Medicare Fraud and Abuse.

The Medicare Open Enrollment period runs from October 15 through December 7 and allows those with existing Medicare plans to make changes in their supplemental insurance, prescription drug plans, or advantage plans if they so desire. For questions or more information call 1-800-963-5337.
