THIS WEEK!

Tallahassee Senior Center Lifelong Learning program is honored to present an exclusive video celebration of timeless Gilbert and Sullivan favorites! A cast of seven principal performers from New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players explore repertoire from seven Gilbert and Sullivan operas in this creative and entertaining concert. Filmed this summer from locations throughout the United States, you’ll delight in the fun and variety of the performances, and the opportunity to see and hear everything up close and personal. The concert features recognizable favorites from The Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore, and The Mikado, as well as lesser performed gems from Patience, Ruddigore, Iolanthe, and The Yeomen of the Guard. I Have a Song to Sing, O! is a great introduction to Gilbert and Sullivan for new audiences and a treat for die-hard Savoyards. Celebrate the season by enjoying this special performance on your device in the comfort of your home.
Thank you to Opening Nights at Florida State University for their generosity in sharing this special performance!

Holidays in the Red Hills: How Local Floridians Celebrated the Season in the 1800s
Most North Florida communities have their own special ways of celebrating this special season, but what did those celebrations look like in the 1800s? Join historian Dr. Josh Goodman from the State Archives of Florida for a virtual tour of 19th-century holiday traditions, as explained in sources written by the people who experienced them. Customs, decorations, and lots of food will be up for discussion—we’ll even share local recipes that date back at least 150 years.
