Holidays in the Red Hills: How Local Floridians Celebrated the Season in the 1800s
The weather is finally cooling off a bit, and the holidays are upon us. Most North Florida communities have their own special ways of celebrating this special season, but what did those celebrations look like in the 1800s? Join historian Dr. Josh Goodman from the State Archives of Florida for a virtual tour of 19th-century holiday traditions, as explained in sources written by the people who experienced them. Customs, decorations, and lots of food will be up for discussion—we’ll even share some recipes from local kitchens that date back at least 150 years.

MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT
IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW!
SHINE Program (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) is federally funded and offered through the Department of Elder Affairs and the local Area Agency on Aging. Year-round, a cadre of vetted and trained volunteer counselors assist clients with applying for Medicare and provide information to help them evaluate options for additional insurance. In addition, we also screen clients for eligibility for Medicaid and other financial assistance for medical and prescription drug costs and report Medicare Fraud and Abuse.
The Medicare Open Enrollment period runs from October 15 through December 7 and allows those with existing Medicare plans to make changes in their supplemental insurance, prescription drug plans, or advantage plans if they so desire.
