2026 Doctor of the Day Program

Doctor of the Day Program for the 2026 Florida Legislative Session

The Doctor of the Day Program was founded in the 1960s by a former Florida House member, Representative Walter Sackett, M.D., from Miami. Representative Sackett encouraged the Florida Medical Association to bring a physician to Tallahassee each day of the Regular Session. This program, which is administered by the Legislative Clinic, delivers a vital professional service to the members of the Florida Legislature and all legislative employees. The physicians of Florida have provided this important voluntary public service each year since the program’s inception.

Meals on Wheels Needs CMS Volunteers

Through the generosity of donors and volunteers, Elder Care Services has been operating the local Meals on Wheels program in our community since 1972! This volunteer-driven lunch delivery program serves home-bound, food insecure seniors in our community Monday through Friday at no cost to the senior. The program is seeking volunteers from Capital Medical Society to assist with delivery on Presidents' Day, February 16, 2026. School is out on this day, so in addition to giving back to the community, this is an opportunity for parents to bring their children with them for this service effort.

Here are the details:

  • Volunteers meet at Elder Care at 2518 W. Tennessee Street at 9:30 am for a brief orientation.
  • Volunteers drive their own vehicle, so the cost of the volunteer effort is time and gas.
  • Drivers depart on their approximately one-hour route at 10:30, making between 7-12 stops.
  • You don’t need a truck or SUV--a sedan works fine.
  • Each vehicle gets a “hot” and “cold” cooler of food to deliver.
  • The routes are safe, and Elder Care has magnets/reusable stickers to mark cars as Elder Care.

Meals on Wheels is more than a meal as this is also a friendly check-in for those served!

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Rosalie Carlin at rcarlin@capmed.org and we will connect you with Elder Care.

Here's Another Connection for CMS Members: Healthcare Lawyer On Call
The CMS has had a long-standing relationship with Jeff Cohen and The Florida Healthcare Law Firm. Did you know that you can tap into a program called Healthcare Lawyer On Call through Jeff and his firm? That's right! On-Call is different than what you may be used to and doesn't mean that you'll find an attorney at 3 AM to answer a question, but what it does mean is that you can call and speak with someone at The Florida Healthcare Law Firm for 15 minutes at no charge! Please remember that any purely verbal discussion on legal matters is simply the lawyer’s best (and unconfirmed) understanding. Another benefit of being a CMS member!
