As Florida remains a hotspot in the country for gluteal fat transfers, more commonly known as Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs), the prevalence of adverse incidents, including patient deaths, has continued. In March 2020, the Boards of Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine amended the office surgery Rules 64B8-9.009 and 64B15-14.007, respectively, to establish a standard of care for BBL procedures.

U.S. Women Should Be Wary of Period-Tracking Apps, White House Says |
Women in the United States should be wary of apps that track their menstrual periods after the rollback of federal abortion rights, a White House official said Friday.
"I think people should be really careful about that," Jen Klein, the director of the White House's Gender Policy Council told reporters Friday, when asked whether the administration recommended that women delete such apps.
The Department of Health and Human Services has published "practical instructions on how to delete certain apps that are on your phone" she added.

CDC Finds Chemical Linked to Cancer in More Than 80% of Urine Samples Drawn from Children and Adults in the Study |
The CDC published the results of a study in June 2022 that revealed that more than 80% of urine samples drawn from children and adults in the study contained a weedkilling chemical linked to cancer.
The report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that out of 2,310 urine samples taken from a group of Americans, 1,885 were laced with detectable traces "at or above the detection limit" of glyphosate. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in herbicides sold around the world, including the widely used Roundup brand. Almost a third of the participants were children ranging from six to 18.

FDA Warns Honey Products Contain Hidden Drug Ingredient |
The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use Wonderful Honey, a product promoted for sexual enhancement on various websites and possibly in some retail stores. This product was discovered during an examination of imported goods.
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Wonderful Honey contains sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved prescription drug Viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction. FDA approval of Viagra is restricted to use under the supervision of a licensed health care professional.

U.S. deaths from bacteria resistant to antibiotics, also known as 'superbugs', jumped 15% in 2020 as the drugs were widely dispensed to treat COVID-19 and fight off bacterial infections during long hospitalizations, enabling the bugs to evolve, a U.S. government report said on Tuesday.

The Federal Government is Offering Another Round of Free COVID Tests |
Americans can once again order free COVID-19 tests from the federal government by visiting COVIDtests.gov. In this round, the U.S. Postal Service will deliver eight free rapid antigen tests to any household in the U.S. that wants them, according to the website. That brings to sixteen the total tests offered per household so far.

House Bill 831 (2019), Electronic Prescribing, was signed into law by Governor DeSantis. The effective date is January 1, 2020. The bill provides important new requirements for prescribers to generate and transmit all prescriptions electronically upon licensure renewal or by July 1, 2021, whichever is earlier.
The purpose of the Florida ePrescribing Clearinghouse is to provide information that contributes to the promotion and implementation of electronic prescribing by health care practitioners, health care facilities, and pharmacies in order to prevent prescription drug abuse, improve patient safety, and reduce unnecessary prescriptions. This Clearinghouse contains information on the advantages, processes, products, rules, and laws of ePrescribing as well as Florida ePrescribing reports.

A PAP (Positive Airway Pressure) machine is an electronic respiratory ventilation device used to treat obstructive sleep apnea. Capital Medical Society Foundation, Inc.'s We Care Network program assists low-income, uninsured adults, whose income is at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level, with obtaining these potentially life-saving medical devices, when prescribed by a pulmonologist. Thanks to our partners at Desloge Home Oxygen and Medical Equipment, Inc., we are able to provide refurbished CPAP, AutoPAP, and BPAP machines for eligible We Care Network patients in Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, and Wakulla Counties.
