CMS Statement on Childhood Vaccines

The Mission Statement of the Capital Medical Society is to promote the practice of medicine for the ultimate benefit of the patient. In light of the current conversation about childhood vaccines, we are writing to make clear that CMS supports routine childhood vaccination which has a proven record of safety and efficacy over decades. Routine childhood vaccination has long since demonstrated its importance in reducing morbidity and mortality for many childhood diseases such as polio, measles and H. influenzae, and their safety has also been demonstrated through decades of experience and research.

The Florida Medical Association released a similar statement yesterday:

On behalf of our 23,000 members, the Florida Medical Association unequivocally supports the vaccination and immunization of school-aged children against diseases that decades ago proved life-threatening to our kids.

The FMA advocates for physicians and their patients to promote the public health, ensure the highest standards of medical practice, and to enhance the quality and availability of health care in the Sunshine State. This includes the safe and effective administration of vaccines and immunizations based on years of research and efficacy.

CMS joins with the FMA in supporting the role of childhood immunizations for the benefit of both the health of the public and the health of our individual patients.

"Children's questions may be very different from adults'," Schonfeld says. And the best way to determine how much information they need is to listen to them.

Here's Another Connection for CMS Members: Healthcare Lawyer On Call
The CMS has had a long-standing relationship with Jeff Cohen and The Florida Healthcare Law Firm. Did you know that you can tap into a program called Healthcare Lawyer On Call through Jeff and his firm? That's right! On-Call is different than what you may be used to and doesn't mean that you'll find an attorney at 3 AM to answer a question, but what it does mean is that you can call and speak with someone at The Florida Healthcare Law Firm for 15 minutes at no charge! Please remember that any purely verbal discussion on legal matters is simply the lawyer’s best (and unconfirmed) understanding. Another benefit of being a CMS member!
