BRIDGE TO BEACH 5K RUN

The beautiful ocean and white sand beach at Smith Point County Park offers a scenic backdrop for the 5K Run for Literacy. We are pleased to announce this year’s race is taking place in-person, and virtually, on September 11, 2021. For more information and to register, visit our registration page.

Positive Parenting
Wednesdays, September 22, 29, October 6, 13, 20, November 3, 6:00-7:00pm

Learn how to set healthy boundaries, discipline without punishment, and treat your children with respect, so that they will respect you. Sessions are designed for both mandated (certificate included) and non-mandated parents. You must provide an email so the Zoom link can be emailed to you. Registration begins on 9/8.

YOUR LIBRARY LOVES TO HELP
Community Outreach Health Bus
Thursday, September 9, 10:00am-2:00pm

The Catholic Health Services Community Outreach Bus will be in the library’s parking lot, offering free blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index, and glucose screenings; along with patient preventative health education and referrals as needed. These free health screenings will be administered by a Catholic Health registered nurse. This is a free service that does not require insurance. Open to all 18 years and older. No appointments necessary.
TASC (GED) Prep Class
Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 14, 21, 23, 28, October 5, 7, 12, 26, 28, November 9, 16, 18, 23, 30, December 7, & 9, 7:00-8:30pm

Need help preparing for the TASC test? This program will help prepare you for the new high school equivalency exam known as TASC (formally known as GED). Classes will be held at the library. The class fee is $30 and non-refundable, which is payable by credit card or money order (payable to MMSCL) only. MMSCL card holders click here to register. Non-district patron registration begins on 9/7, if space allows.

Local Author Talk: Lost Boys of Montauk by Amanda M. Fairbanks
Tuesday, September 21, 7:00-8:00pm via Zoom

Click here to register for a live author talk with Amanda M. Fairbanks, author of The Lost Boys of Montauk: The True Story of the Wind Blown, Four Men Who Vanished at Sea, and the Survivors They Left Behind. 
 
Through this tragic loss, Fairbanks examines the profound shift of Montauk from a working-class village- “a drinking town with a fishing problem”-to a playground for the ultra-wealthy, as well as the reasons that an event more than three decades old remains startingly vivid in people’s minds. 
 
Copies of the book are available at the Reference desk for the first 20 MMSCL patrons who register. Digital copies are available on Libby and Overdrive.
