21st Annual Smith Point "Bridge to Beach" 5K Run for Literacy
Saturday, 9/10, 9:00 AM 

Save the date! The beautiful ocean and white sand beach at Smith Point County Park offer a scenic backdrop for the 5K Run for Literacy on Saturday, September 10, at 9 AM. We are pleased to announce that this year’s “Bridge to Beach” race is taking place in-person and virtually.

The Library has a great line-up of outdoor programs at beaches, parks, wildlife refuges, and even on the Mastic Recreation Center lawn! Check the program calendar for a full list of events.

Library services are temporarily relocated to the Mastic Recreation Center at 15 Herkimer St, Mastic, NY.
CHILDREN & PARENTS
Sprinkler Play @ Mastic Rec

Wear your bathing suit and sunscreen, and bring a towel!
Children 1-5 years, with an adult. 
Sketch-n-Stretch: Ocean Yoga & Art

Sketch-n-Stretch offers a unique and exciting program that combines art and yoga for children. The program starts on a yoga mat, learning to breathe, stretch and visualize. After, we swap our mats for paintbrushes and create a beautiful painting together! Every student will exit this program with a completed painted canvas!  
*All art supplies and yoga mats will be provided. Please wear comfortable play clothes. Children entering grades 1-5.
Music at the CREEC @ CREEC Nature Center

Join singer/songwriter Anne O’Rourke for a lively performance of songs about the creatures of the night! Owls, bats, and frogs! Lots of sing-alongs and dance-along fun, plus we will decorate our very own Rhythm Board that we can use during the show. The performance will take place at CREEC Nature Center on the grounds of Carmans River Adventures, 2979 Montauk Highway, Brookhaven, 11719.
Families with children entering Grades 4 or younger. 56
Beachy Canvas Art @ Mastic Rec
 
Create a beach scene with a message of your choice! Add sand and underwater treasures to your canvas art. 
TEENS
Virtual Weekly Trivia
Monday, 8/15, 3:00 - 6:00 PM
 
Check out our weekly trivia! A new link will be posted every Monday at 3 pm, and you can participate until Friday at 6 pm. The link will be posted on Instagram, Discord, and on our program calendar on the library’s website. Registration is not required.
Fishing & Crabbing @ Osprey Park

Join librarians from Adult and Teen and have fun crabbing and fishing. All materials will be provided. Bring your own cooler or bucket to take home anything you catch. This program will take place at Osprey Park on Oceanview Dr, Mastic Beach. Registration is required for each MMSCL patron.

 
Virtual D&D

Play with Ms. Chelsea, Ms. Sam, and your friends in an epic table-top adventure full of magic, puzzles, and more. Characters will be provided. The discord code is FyNDcrp. Registration begins 30 days before each program date.
Nature Walks @ William Floyd Estate
Friday, 8/19, 2:30 - 4:00 PM 

Come for a nature walk on the grounds of the William Floyd Estate. This is a drop-in program.

Community Clean-up @ Smith Point Park
 
Join library staff and other environmentally minded residents at Smith Point Beach and make a difference by cleaning up your local shoreline! 
By using one the first sustainable clean-up stations placed by a non-profit group in 2021, residents can easily dispose of litter that is polluting our beaches and parks. Meet staff at the Flight 800 Memorial. Open to all.
Stitch & Chat: Crochet and Knit Group for Teens & Adults
 
All skill levels welcome! Bring your own project or work on crochet or knit squares for charity. For the charity project, bring your own medium-weight acrylic yarn (size 4) and either a crochet hook size 4 mm/G-6 or knitting needles size 4.5 mm/7. No formal instruction will be given but general knowledge will be shared. Open to all. Mastic Rec Center.
Evening Nature Walk @ Smith Point Park
Tuesday, 8/16, 6:00 - 8:00 PM 

Meet with library staff at the Flight 800 Memorial to take an evening walk on the trails and the beach. Remember to wear sunblock and bug spray if needed. Bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes!  Open to all. No registration required.
