Meet Newest DBA Member, Java Momma
|
|
Brian and Melissa Shoop, established Java Momma in September 2017 after deciding that they wanted to do something more meaningful and different than what they had been doing. "We have always been doing things on our own. Why work 40 hours a week for someone else when you can work 300 hours a week for yourself? says Melissa Shoop (pictured on right), humorously. "We live in Danville and our roots are here."
Java Momma produces air roasted coffee that is produced with 100% renewable energy. They have over 80 coffee flavors and 15 blends/single origins at any given time. They also have a line of tea and cocoa that is unique to this area.
Primarily an online company (javamomma.com), Java Momma serves all states and territories, plus APO/FPO/DPO. They started retail sales and have a line of coffee (Private Label available), tea, infusers and more available for wholesale at their store at 1426 Ferry Street, Danville.
Java Momma's low core cost provides a high revenue to its affiliates and network marketers so they can count on a certain level of income every week.
"We strive to roast the highest quality coffee and deliver the highest customer service to their customers."
Java Momma is a current member of the Danville Business Alliance, Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce, and the DSA.
We are happy to have another growing business join our community!

Small businesses are encouraged to apply for the Montour County Small Business & Tourism Grant administered by the Montour County Commissioners, which will provide funds to qualifying businesses.
About the Grant
It is the intent of the Montour County Commissioner’s Small Business/Tourism Grant to provide qualifying businesses a grant equal to five months of the business’ fixed cost budget. Hunting Season Trail Closures / Appeal for
Park and Trail User Courtesy
|
|
The Montour Area Recreation Commission (MARC) reminds outdoor recreation enthusiasts in and around Montour County that archery season for deer will open this Saturday, October 3. The number of individuals enjoying time outdoors in our area will increase steadily in coming weeks, culminating in late November and early December during the regular firearms seasons for deer. Unfortunately, with the increased usage of outdoor recreational sites comes an increase in the potential for dangerous interactions.
Though hunting is not allowed within the boundaries of the Montour Preserve, the Hess Recreation Area, or the North Branch Canal Trail, hunting is allowed at the Hopewell Park / Danville Borough Farm Trail System (for those with Pennsylvania hunting licenses and special hunting permits from Danville Borough) and does occur on adjacent private lands around all sites. MARC encourages those spending time outdoors in coming months to always remain alert to their surroundings and wear brightly colored clothing. MARC also encourages visitors to place a brightly colored vest on pets (where allowed) and keep pets on leash and close at hand at all times.
In order to reduce the potential for dangerous interactions between various user groups at MARC-managed sites, MARC will be posting the following trail closures this week:
North Branch Canal Trail closures:
Thursday, October 22 – Saturday, October 24
Saturday, November 28 – Saturday, December 12
Hopewell Park / Danville Borough Farm Trail System closures:
Saturday, October 3
Saturday, October 10
Saturday, October 17 – Saturday, October 24
Saturday, October 31
Saturday, November 7
Saturday, November 14
Sunday, November 15
Saturday, November 21
Saturday, November 28 – Saturday, December 12
No trail or facility closures are planned at the Montour Preserve or the Hess Recreation Area.
MARC asks that all park and trail visitors abide by posted closures and consider visiting other sites as needed. A complete inventory of outdoor recreational opportunities in Montour and Columbia Counties can be found on MARC’s website at https://montourrec.com/parks-trails-in-montour-county/.
Because of the increased number of user conflicts reported last fall at the site, trail closures at the Hopewell Park / Danville Borough Farm Trail System will be enforced by MARC, Danville Borough, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and local law enforcement agencies. Site visitors are advised that increased enforcement is planned, including the use of trail cameras, and persons found to be entering the site on closed dates without a valid Danville Borough hunting permit and Pennsylvania hunting license will be subject to defiant trespassing and other possible charges.
MARC and its many volunteers and partner organizations work hard to provide safe, free, family-friendly outdoor recreational opportunities in and around Montour County, but the cooperation and good behavior of park and trail visitors is essential. MARC staff have experienced a significant increase in confrontational behavior by visitors this year and it is anticipated that such behaviors may continue or increase in coming weeks and months as the COVID-19 pandemic, political tensions, and other concerns intensify an already stressful time. For the health and safety of all users to MARC-managed properties, including MARC’s staff, MARC asks that park and trail visitors abide by all posted closures and usage restrictions and do their part to help make our community a safe and healthy place to live, work, and play.

Self-certification is an optional program by which you can reassure your employees and customers that you are adhering to all appropriate guidance. Self-certification does NOT impose additional obligations or result in additional inspections; rather, business operators who self-certify have taken the additional step of confirming their dedication to protecting their employees and customers from COVID-19, and thus may increase their occupancy to 50%. More Information found here.
It’s free to join the program and enrollment is voluntary. Participating restaurants will receive:
-
A listing on the searchable public Open & Certified PA Business Directory
- Permission to increase indoor dining from 25% to 50% occupancy
- Free Open & Certified Pennsylvania signs for your physical location, website, and social media channels
- Timely updates, reminders, and alerts for new business guidance and resources
Certification Requirements
As part of the self-certification process, you must confirm your business is following all required public health and safety measures including:
As part of these health and safety measures, you must require:
- Mask wearing
- Social distancing (of at least 6 feet)
- Limiting indoor and outdoor seating
- Close alcohol sales at 11:00 PM
How to Self-Certify
The self-certification form will be available starting on Sept. 21, 2020. To complete the form, you must:
-
Read the full requirements (also available in Spanish) for self-certification included in the form
- Agree to comply with all requirements
- Provide your maximum indoor occupancy based on the fire code
-
Confirm your information is correct (false information can result in penalties on the grounds of unsworn falsification to authorities)
Owners should keep a copy of the self-certification confirmation they will receive by email. For questions about the Open and Certified Pennsylvania program, read the Frequently Asked Questions or email us at covidselfcert@pa.gov.
Enforcement
The enforcement agencies listed below will be able to access your information as part of their ongoing enforcement activities.
- PA State Police
- PA Department of State
- PA Department of Health
- PA Department of Agriculture
- PA Department of Labor & Industry
- Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control
Self-certification will not lead to any additional inspections. Beginning on Oct. 5, 2020, enforcement officials will be checking on your self-certification status if your restaurant is operating at 50% indoor dining capacity. If you are not offering indoor dining, or if you are keeping indoor dining at a maximum of 25% occupancy, you do not need to complete the self-certification form.

Help the Friendship Fire Co.
Reach Its Ladder Truck Goal
|
|
The Friendship Fire Company was established in 1841 as the first fire company in Danville. They are one of four 100% volunteer fire departments in the Danville Borough.
Their current ladder truck, a 2001 Pierce with an 85-foot tower, has served our community well; however, it is in dire need of replacement due to current mandatory safety regulation changes, and expensive unforeseen repairs. Over the past year, the current ladder truck has responded to a total of 167 fire, motor vehicle, and mutual aid calls throughout a 25-mile radius.
In order to continue to protect our small community, which includes four nursing homes, an elementary school, a secondary school, a high school, small local businesses and Geisinger Medical Center, an investment for a new ladder truck has become an absolute must!
The total cost is expected to reach $1.3 million dollars! Over $500,000 has been raised to date. Your much needed and appreciated donations to help support their efforts will provide them the opportunity to continue functioning as a vital part of our small community. Thank you very much for your time, consideration, and support in helping them achieve their goal to keep us safe!
