 People who make Kingston special

Sal Guido & Mark Guido

Names:   Sal Guido and Mark Guido

Business: Mariner's Harbor-Frank Guido's Little Italy

Occupation: Partners/owners Mariner's Harbor, Frank Guido's Little Italy.

Age:

Sal - 37

Mark - 37

Where are you originally from?

Sal: Born and raised in Kingston

Mark: Originally from Saugerties NY

Why are you here?

Sal: I always loved Kingston growing up and never wanted to leave the area.

Mark: I'm here for my family and continuing my family business that they devoted their lives to building to what it is today.

What is your favorite hangout?

Sal: Mariner's Harbor.

Mark: Mariner's Harbor! Of course.

Tell us something we never would have guessed about you.

Sal: I took boxing classes for a few years and loved it.

Mark: I study Buddhism

What keeps you here?

Sal: Most of my family resides in the area and the restaurants of course, but I do really love Kingston and think that the Hudson Valley is a great place to live.

Mark: Same as the reason I'm here. Family, and my connection to the area.

What would you change?

Sal: I think we need to figure out better ways to let people outside of Kingston and the immediate area know what a wonderful place Kingston is to visit and/or live. Kingston gets divided a lot between uptown, midtown and downtown, but it is one city that has a lot to offer and I think we as a community and as business people should figure out a way to work together and show outsiders what we have to offer.

Mark: I feel that there is a divide in the business communities. I would to see all of us work together to promote Kingston as a whole.

Where would we find you on Sunday mornings?

Sal: Spending time with my fianc Megan and her son Johnnie.

Mark: At work.

When you are not in Kingston, what's your idea of a wonderful city to visit, and why?

Sal: Chicago, I have been there a few times, most recently when I got engaged and it is a big city with a small city feel. The people are extremely friendly.

Mark: Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand, why? The Thai people are the as gracious and generous as anyone in the world I've ever encountered. As for the city of Patong, it is a perfect mix of city and tropical living at the same time. I know that sounds contradictory, but it's something you have to see to describe.

Dj-Vu Delis and Restaurants Now Serving
Five New Eateries Open on the Kingston Corridor in February!

Taqueria on Broadway

From the Rondout to Uptown Kingston colorful new Delis and Restaurants recently opened, and are serving a hint of nostalgia with their diverse menus.

Along the Rondout Creek on Abeel Street, the P&T Deli had its soft opening a week ago, and is planning a major opening event in about two weeks.  The location is familiar to anyone who has shopped for computer parts, duct tape, hammers, or jack knives at the marvelously eclectic P&T Surplus store.  The P&T Deli is operated by Linda Smythe, the wife of the operator of P&T Surplus, Tim Smythe--aided and abetted by various family members--oh yes, and Igor the Robot.  Those who have attended the wine and cheese art openings at P&T's annual "Nuts & Bolts" art exhibition are familiar with Igor, who will be pouring sodas for the grand opening of the deli.
