Prosecutor: Beware of Dirty Dirt

Beware fill dirt given away or sold online, which may contain regulated solid waste contaminants that can cause harm over the long term, advises the Morris County Prosecutors Office and the state Department of Environmental Protection. A 2022 law requires that materials from excavation, land clearing or demolition be properly registered, stored or discarded. The "giver" may be seeking to skirt the law to avoid the regulatory expense. Ask for testing verification before putting fill dirt on residential property.
