Hodgins: Local Arts Groups Get Creative and Prepare for a Post-COVID World

The last nine months have been a trial of fire for the performing arts as the pandemic has strangled their livelihood and drained their coffers. But governments at various levels, along with generous corporate and private donors, continue to extend crucial lifelines for cultural institutions big and small.

In the spring, the CARES Act and other forms of assistance kept desperate arts groups afloat. In Orange County alone, 137 arts organizations and businesses in 27 cities received relief funds totaling more than $2.7 million.

What’s Coming in Local Arts & Culture in 2021

Arts and culture organizations are moving forward with cautious optimism as events get planned for the new year. Here's what Voice of OC writers are looking forward to.

Orange County Artists Paint, Create and Perform as Mental Health Outlet

Many Orange County artists use art to explore and improve personal and community mental health.

Orange County has returned to Tier 1 of the California Re-Opening Plan, precipitating the closure of many of Orange County's arts and culture organizations and venues. In addition, a curfew for non-essential activities after 10pm has been instituted by the state government. Arts Orange County will continue to spotlight a mix of virtual and streaming arts and culture offerings along with in-person events that conform to the most current safety guidelines. We encourage everyone to keep their lives enriched by the arts, but safely! Save lives by wearing masks and respecting social distancing protocols.
