Orange County Museums Reopen with Precautions, Yet Some Stay Closed

When the Bowers Museum shut down in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, it had one of its most popular exhibitions in decades on view. The opening gala for "Inside the Walt Disney Archives: 50 Years of Preserving the Magic" essentially sold out, and attendance during the first two weeks of the exhibition was robust.

Then COVID-19 forced museums across the state and country to close. The shutdown cost the museum about a quarter of a million dollars per month, according to President Peter Keller.

Pageant of the Masters Still Hoping Ticketholders Will Let it Slide

We've been hearing for months from disappointed fans of the Pageant of the Masters, a longstanding Festival of Arts tradition in Laguna Beach that was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. People from as far away as Ontario, Canada expressed their frustration as they sought to get refunds for their tickets to the popular summertime attraction, which features volunteers posing in costume on elaborate sets as they re-create famous paintings and sculptures. Many complained that they had been waiting weeks for the Pageant to issue refunds or even replies to their inquiries.

On Tuesday, September 22, Season 46, Episode 6 aired of Food Network's cutthroat culinary competition "Chopped" with the theme "Soup and Sandwich Savvy" featuring OC's Paul Cao of Burnt Crumbs!

While the majority of Orange County's arts and culture organizations and venues remain physically closed; virtual/streaming offerings are thriving, and some outdoor venues are beginning their phased re-openings. Arts Orange County is pleased to combine its recommendations for online enrichment with some good news about places you can now visit personally. ArtsOC and Voice of OC continue to urge everyone to follow the State and County's current precautionary guidelines as they venture out. Masks and distancing save lives.
