Special collection available for viewing as staff plans for digital expansion
Rare 78-rpm records from legends such as Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, never-released studio recordings, and personal letters sent to fans by Ray Charles are just a sliver of the 400,000 artifacts preserved in the University of Mississippi's Blues Archive. Housed in the J.D. Williams Library, the archive is celebrating 40 years of collecting stories, voices, memorabilia, and images that define the genre often defined as "the people's music."

Local Voices: Lafayette County Master Gardeners
by Bronwynne Bailey
It is important to prune roses in mid-February to mid-March while the plant is still dormant. You may see small leaflets forming on the ends of branches; that is a signal that your plant is ready for pruning. Pruning is important to remove old branches, shape the plant, stimulate new growth, and optimize air circulation through the center of the plant.
When your roses bloom, you’ll be glad you did it!

Local Views: The State of Our City
Four More Years
by Jordan Bankhead
All but one alderman and the sitting mayor Robyn Tannehill will serve another four years because no one chose to contest their seats
The only election for alderman is for Ward 1 where Rick Addy stepped down. Drew Stevens, Erin Smith, and William Mayo will vie for that seat. There will be no primary and at the general election Tuesday, June 3, the top vote getter will be elected. All this begs the question why so many city leadership positions have not been contested this year. I sat down with Mayor Tannehill to try to get to the bottom of this. While there are many theories regarding incumbent advantage, it might help to explore the mayor’s record in the past eight years and her plans for the future.

Local Voices: The View From The Balcony
by Randy Weeks
Okay, y’all. It’s time for another installment of “Notes in My Phone,” my chronicles of interesting things I’ve heard people say or have read. As always, I give no context to the notes with rare exception. You provide the context. Most names of those I’ve quoted have been omitted to protect the guilty. See Randy's view here
