Panel Looks Toward the Future

Imagine a web portal for local businesses that would make it easier for online shoppers to find products or services here in town. That's one of many ideas presented by a Palm Beach Civic Association committee focused on the future of business in Palm Beach. By the mid-2030s, e-shopping, technological innovations, downtown development in West Palm Beach and changing consumer behavior will transform the shopping experience in Palm Beach.

Buildings Going up Fast at Former Testa's Site in Palm Beach

Buildings at the former Testa's restaurant site in the 200 block of Royal Poinciana Way in Palm Beach are quickly coming to fruition. Work is ahead of schedule on the 1.3-acre site and is set to finish in early 2020, according to Cody Crowell, managing director of construction for the Frisbie Group.

Temporary Cell Tower in Palm Beach's North End Now in Service

North End residents and visitors should be noticing better cell service now that the temporary cell tower installed late last year at Palmo and North Lake ways is working, a town official said Friday. Although the tower installed by AT&T at the end of December was due to begin service in early January, it didn't go into service until Thursday, Undergrounding Utilities Director Steven Stern said.

The Town of Palm Beach is seeking to appoint two (2) members to the Code Enforcement Board effective April 2019. Currently, there are two (2) regular members whose terms will expire on April 1, 2019 and one member is eligible to re-apply for one more term. All members must provide proof of Town of Palm Beach residency.

The Town of Palm Beach is seeking to appoint four (4) members to the Recreation Advisory Commission effective April 2019. Currently, there are two (2) regular members and two (2) alternate members whose terms will expire on April 1, 2019 and all, except one, are eligible to re-apply for one more term. All members must be registered voters in the Town of Palm Beach.
Palm Beach County to Spend $16M on Voting Machines for 2020

Hoping to avoid a repeat of 2018's chaotic vote counting, Palm Beach County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to spend $15.7 million on new voting machines. Supervisor of Elections Wendy Link said she's "very confident" that the investment means Palm Beach County won't face another election like the one in November.

William "Bill" Meyer is perhaps best known as the chairman of Meyer Jabara Hotels, and years ago it was the hotel business that brought Meyer to Palm Beach County, and ultimately to Palm Beach. Meyer, a Palm Beach resident for 27 years, goes to work every day at the company's West Palm Beach office. A widower since his wife, Denise, died of cancer last year, he moved to Palm Beach County 40 years ago.

Town Public Safety Committee Pushing to Move Compensation Decisions Faster

The Town of Palm Beach Public Safety Committee is trying to stop an exodus of police and firefighters leaving for other agencies that offer better compensation.

The consultant's study, comparing compensation of town employees to the local market, isn't planned to be completed until March. That's too long to wait, the Town Council's Public Safety Committee decided Wednesday.

FAA Alert Suggests Trump to Return to Mar-a-Lago for Presidents' Day

President Trump is planning to spend Presidents' Day weekend at Mar-a-Lago, according to an alert issued Thursday by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The notice, issued Thursday would begin on Friday, Feb. 15, and expire on Monday, Feb. 18.

The West Palm Beach City Commission this week gave initial approval to a 24-story condominium complex at 1309 S. Flagler Drive, paving the way for more high-end units on the waterfront just south of downtown and dismissing complaints the 300-foot-tall structure would be far bigger than city regulations allow on a site smaller than 1.4 acres.

It's February, and there are visible streaks of algae at the Pahokee Marina. Nothing to worry about, or a sign of things to come? Scientists from Harbor Branch , partnering with Seattle-based 4ocean, showed off a new autonomous vessel. It will be launched into Lake Okeechobee to look for signs of algae blooms.
