Conduct Corner: Blue Light Emergency Phones

Do you know why we have the Blue Light emergency phones on campus?

Blue Lights were installed in 1990 in response to women on campus taking a stand against sexual violence and advocating for their safety. Blue Light emergency phones are still an important part of Queen’s security system today.

All calls from Emergency Phones receive the highest priority response. All nearby Security staff are immediately dispatched to the scene and will search the surrounding area if no one is in sight when they arrive.

These phones are for emergencies only. When they are misused for pranks, it takes important resources away from real emergencies.

Boost your Flex $ Balance

If you are running low on Flex $ this semester, you can top up your account anytime through your Student Residence & Dining Portal or Campus Gifts.

Your Flex $ and TAMs are accepted at many food locations across campus, so why not explore something new this week?

Here are a few tasty ideas:

  • Zapies at the Queen’s Centre — Use a TAM to enjoy a pizza-naan fusion that’s as unique as it is delicious.
  • Wally’s in Botterell Hall — Try a hearty lunch bowl. Bonus: this location accepts meal swipes just like the dining halls!
  • flip!t in Mackintosh-Corry Hall — Build your own salad with grilled protein or grab a specialty burger, then make it a combo using your TAMs.

Top up your Flex $, try something new, and make the most of your Residence Meal Plan.

Sustainable Tip of the Week

Use a reusable travel mug to avoid the $0.35 single-use cost recovery cup fee on hot beverages and fountain drinks in retail locations.

Myth Buster: Is It Really Too Late to Sign a Lease for Next Year?

You might hear that if you haven’t signed a lease by now, you’ll miss out on housing for next year — but that’s not true.

In Kingston, most rental listings appear between December and February, once current tenants decide whether to renew or move. Many leases end in April, and by law, tenants must give 60 days’ notice. This means landlords often confirm availability in late winter.

What does this mean for you?

  • There’s still plenty of time to find housing.
  • Waiting can give you access to more options.
  • You have time to plan, find roommates, and make informed decisions.

Bottom line: Don’t rush. Do your research, explore your options, and choose what’s right for you.

Remembrance Day Service

November 11, 10:50–11:30 am

Grant Hall

Doors open at 10:30 am, service to begin at 10:50 am, classes are cancelled on November 11 between 10:30 and 11:30 am

It is estimated that 70–85 million people lost their lives during WWII. As the number of surviving veterans dwindles, the focus shifts from direct recollection, to preserving the stories and history of those who served.

There are at least 175 recorded Queen’s deaths from WWII – students, staff, and faculty who were looking forward to bright futures after graduating. In this 80th year since the end of the war, we remember the sacrifice of these individuals from the Queen’s community.
