Community-Engaged Scholars Program Student Input Session
Wednesday, February 24, 6:00-7:00PM

This input session will feature a presentation on a vision for a new Community-Engaged Scholars Program. The proposal aims to strengthen the academic support for students engaged in community and civic engagement in a “Community Engaged Scholars Program” designed to enable all undergraduates, regardless of major or minor, to strengthen their community service with a set of corresponding academic experiences and out-of-class co-curricular experiences. Your voice is important and we hope that you will join us on Wednesday, February 24th from 6:00-7:00PM on Zoom. To ensure that you receive the zoom link to attend please REGISTER HERE. Whether you are able to attend or not, please take a moment to review a summary of the proposal and submit your suggestions, questions, and concerns HERE for the committee to review. If you have questions, please reach out to Lucas Malo at lmalo@brandeis.edu.
Sophomore Year: The Big Decision!
As a sophomore at Brandeis, lots of questions might be coming up about how you want to spend the rest of your time at Brandeis & beyond. Are you overwhelmed by choosing a major/minor? Not sure if you want to study abroad? Are you fulfilling your passions outside the classroom (volunteering, singing, etc.)?

The Center for Spiritual Life and the Department of Community Service are excited to host Sophomore Year TBD: The Big Decisions, a new opportunity for sophomores to reflect on their time at Brandeis, hear from inspirational student/faculty/staff/alumni speakers, and build a stronger sense of community. This two-day virtual retreat will provide you a time and space to slow down and pay attention to what matters most to you.

Register by February 15. Space is limited. Participants will be selected based on application responses and order of submission. Contact Lara Ericson with any questions.
iGen Series - Intergenerational Conversations for the Future
Monday, 3/29, 4/5 and 4/12
2:30-4pm
Zoom

The iGen Series is a 3-part event consisting of intergenerational conversations where older adults, Brandeis Undergraduates, and middle school students will have the opportunity to learn from and teach each other about any topic along the theme of "Lessons from the Past". Leading up to the event - occurring across three days in late March and early April - multiple preparatory days will be offered to meet other individuals within your generation and to be trained by a professional public speaker. RSVP here.
Afternoon Enrichment is looking for volunteers for the upcoming semester!
Afternoon Enrichment is going to be holding program virtually every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm with middle school students from the Waltham public school system in the 2021 spring semester! Programs consist of one hour of a hands-on group activity and one hour of one-on-one tutoring with your student. If you are interested in working with students during program each week, please fill out the volunteer application by February 21st, 11:59 pm!
Community Partner Opportunities
Volunteers needed for weekly virtual visits with senior citizens
At Conversations to Remember, we match college students with senior citizens who are living in long term care communities for weekly virtual visits. All of the volunteering is done virtually, including the training that we provide.

Mentor in METCO, Inc.'s Homework Club!
METCO (the nation’s largest voluntary school desegregation program) is seeking college students to provide one-on-one academic mentorship and skill-building for scholars in grades 3-5. Academic mentors provide live homework support via Zoom twice a week for 45-minutes or once a week for 90-minutes. Whether mentees are attending school in-person, participating in a hybrid model, or distance learning from home during a pandemic, academic mentors provide extra support, both academic and emotional, by helping current METCO students develop strong organizational skills, stay on top of their work, and meet deadlines. Mentor in METCO's Homework Club today!
The Sesa Wo Suban Project is recruiting college admission mentors!
The Sesa Wo Suban Project brings college mentoring and culturally relevant pedagogy to Black students in Metro Atlanta by transforming at-risk students into agents of change who push for liberation in their communities. We are in desperate need of 15 undergraduate volunteers who are interested in supporting and assisting marginalized youth with their college admission journeys. Please email loganshanks@brandeis.edu if interested or fill out this form.
