On Campus & Virtual Opportunities
VolunteerFest & Service & Activism Club Fair
Monday, August 17 - Friday, August 21

VolunteerFest is your introduction or reconnection to volunteering and community service at Brandeis! Explore opportunities to engage in your community through connecting with our many service and activist clubs, while participating in a variety of virtual volunteer and advocacy-based projects throughout the week. Select the projects and experiences that most interest you! The kickoff to the event will be a virtual Service & Activism Club Fair on Monday, August 17th, where you will have the opportunity to meet the different service and activist clubs and Waltham Group programs, and learn how you can get involved during the year. All student participants can log their volunteer hours in the Commitment to Service Award Program. Register here to participate in the fair or any of the workshops happening throughout the week.

DeisAct: Resources!
Waltham Group Advocacy Deis Acts! For 8/10/20

Documentary: King in the Wilderness
This is a documentary focused on the last three years of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. "King in the Wilderness reveals stirring new perspectives on Dr. King’s character, his radical doctrine of nonviolence and his internal philosophical struggles prior to his assassination in 1968. The documentary also features archival footage, behind-the-scenes video of Dr. King’s private moments, intimate archival photographs and phone conversations recorded by President Johnson, who was both ally and adversary in King’s fight for civil rights.” - Kunhardt Film Foundation

Action Item: REGISTER TO VOTE!
Large-scale changes can more easily be made if there are people fighting for them in the government. There are many primaries coming up this fall, and of course the presidential election. The government matters at every level, no matter how insignificant it may seem. It takes less than 5 minutes to register to vote. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend that you do!
The Waltham Group Youth Engagement Summer Squad Needs You!
We are an initiative that seeks to connect with youth in Waltham and beyond to support their academic, social, and emotional needs. Just like us, many children are feeling anxious and lonely during this uncertain time. We are creating virtual academic and social-emotional videos and worksheets for students in grades K-12 with help from our Waltham community partners. We need your help to create content for our Resource Drive and Youtube Channel!

We realize that there is a need for this content outside of the Waltham community. Please feel free to send along the links above to the education and youth networks in your own community. Send us an email at [email protected] to learn how to get involved in our initiative and with any questions.
Community Partner Opportunities
Join the The Campus Compact Safe Elections Project
The Campus Compact Safe Elections Project will enlist and train 300 students this summer to recruit their fellow students as poll workers for the November 2020 election. Campus Compact will train Student Recruiters to be effective organizers and educators about the importance of poll workers for our democracy.

Student Recruiters will receive a $500 stipend upon completion of their work, which will take place over about 3 weeks during Summer 2020. Given the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, all training and resources will be provided online, and recruitment activities will take place virtually.

Both of these events will be virtual for the first time this year, and we are looking for students who can help us develop creative, interactive, and engaging events that generate excitement around the work we do at WPY. We are also looking for students who can help develop effective marketing strategies and materials for promoting these events.
