Do you like spreading kindness? We want your help to make Kindness Day 2020 special. Kindness day is a yearly celebration of something that happens every day at Brandeis. This year, it will look a little different, but we will continue the tradition of coming together to spread and celebrate kindness. We are looking for peers who are excited to help us plan and implement the 11th annual kindness day. We welcome students who are both on and off-campus this semester.

Find out more and fill out an interest form here. Join us at the involvement fair on August 30th to learn more!
Virtual Supply Drive and Virtual Showcase with Waltham Group Summer Fundraising
Waltham Mutual Aid is a community network which aims to help Waltham community members cope with the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and the likely impending economic recession, based on the mutual aid structure historically set forth by black and brown communities. As a fully grassroots, volunteer-run organization, we work to facilitate the reallocation of resources in the Waltham community by connecting those who can give with those who are in need of support.

In doing so, we hope to forge stronger relationships with the community and establish lasting structures to support and empower all members of the Waltham community during the current COVID-19 crisis and beyond. Brandeis Waltham Group, in partnership with the Waltham Mutual Aid fund, is organizing a virtual supply drive for Waltham residents impacted by COVID-19. Waltham residents are in need of groceries, hygiene products, household items, etc. We hope to provide the Waltham community with all of the items on this registry. Please consider purchasing items from this registry; each item you purchase will be sent directly to Waltham Mutual Aid, which will distribute amongst those in need.

Thank you so much for your support. Please email WG Summer Fundraising with any questions!

Apply to Be a New Voters Mentor
If you are interested in civic engagement and want to help amplify youth voices in today’s political climate, consider applying to be a New Voters College Mentor!! Mentors guide 1-3 mentees through running a voter registration drive in their high schools. The role requires a low time commitment (details on the application) but makes a huge difference in the mission of New Voters, a youth-led nonprofit working towards 100% voter registration of high school students across the country. Now more than ever, getting young people out to vote is so important!!

The Waltham Public Library wants YOUR stories!
How is the COVID pandemic affecting you? How has it changed your daily life? During COVID, have you wondered how peoples' lives changed during the 1918 influenza? Future Waltham citizens will be wondering what life amid a pandemic was like for us, and we want to add your stories to the record. The Waltham Public Library is collecting stories, photos, artwork and other entries that show how the people of Waltham are living life during a pandemic and how daily lives have changed during these times.

Your stories matter! Contribute and submit them here or email them to:  [email protected]

Volunteer to Get Out the Vote with MassVOTE

With the September 1 Primary just days away, we are doing all that we can to get out the vote, and we need your help. From passing out literature to joining phone banks, we hope that you can aid us in ensuring that our election takes place in the most inclusive and accessible manner possible.

MassVOTE will be holding two phone banks to get out the vote during the last day of voting for the September 1 Primary. Phonebank hours are 11 AM - 1 PM and 4:30 PM to 7 PM.

Individuals can sign up for one of our phone banks here! They are, of course, virtual. If you or anyone you know is able to join, we encourage you to do so.
Waltham Girl Scout Troop is Hiring!
We're looking for a strong, female-identifying leader to join our Girl Scout leadership team this fall! Due to COVID, you will be leading meetings and activities remotely for the time-being. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain a unique hands-on experience working with youth, the Waltham community, and become a better leader yourself.

We work with high-school aged young women from Waltham, engaging them in activities to empower themselves, and encouraging them to develop strong leadership skills. (Also there are Girl Scout cookies involved, so there's that!)

If you're interested, please fill out this short application by Wednesday, September 2! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected]!

***P.S.- You do not need to have been a Girl Scout when you were younger in order to join our team! You only need to have a passion for youth development.
Community Day Center: Waltham Tuesday Sandwich-Making
The Tuesday Sandwich Makers is a project to help the Community Day Center in Waltham (CDCW) continue to serve a healthy lunch to their clients during this time of pandemic. CDCW is the only drop-in day program for homeless individuals in the Metrowest and until the pandemic, served a hot sit down lunch each weekday to their clients. But now they have adjusted to offering grab-and-go lunches.

We looking for volunteers to make 40 sandwiches for the CDCW’s Tuesday lunch program. We ask that you/your group commit to making at least 20 sandwiches, but you can do all 40 as well. This is a perfect project for a youth group, teams of families, a class or just a group of friends wanting to pitch in. You can do it once, several times or on an ongoing basis. For everyone’s health and safety, makers must observe safe food handling practices and health guidelines that will be sent to you upon signing up.

For more information or to sign up, contact Barry Glass or by phone at 339.440.0133
Become A Poll Worker
Did you know that the United States is facing a nationwide poll worker shortage? Usually, 56% of poll workers (the people who staff polling places on election day) are over the age of 60, but this year they aren’t signing up due to COVID-19. Unless younger Americans step up, the resulting shortage of poll workers could mean closed polling places.

How can you help? Register to serve as a poll worker. Visit www.PowerthePolls.org/campus to learn more and apply to serve as a poll worker on election day.

For those on campus: To become a poll worker in Waltham you must be 16 years or older, registered to vote in Massachusetts, attend training and be available to serve the entire day.

Otherwise, you can check your eligibility at https://www.workelections.com/ by entering the address of your current residence (at home or on-campus). Then sign up today at www.PowerthePolls.org/campus  and https://www.workelections.com/. If you have any questions or feedback feel free to reach out!
